News Brief

Moviehold: Seems Michael Knight and K.I.T.T weren’t an item after all – or maybe they were, and this kid will eventually grow mag wheels? – with the very human-looking Justin Bruening announced as playing ‘Son of the Hoff’ on the new “Knight Rider” series today. Bruening will play the son of Michael Knight, the fluffy-stomached leather-clad crusader of the popular 1980s series. From all indications, it seems David Hasselhoff won’t be invited back to cameo. As the trades point out, Bruening’s casting is reminiscent of Hasselhoff’s when he did “Knight Rider” – both come from Soap backgrounds (The Hoff with “Young and the Restless”, Bruening with “All My Children”). Eventually, Bruening will release an album that only Germans will buy.

New York Daily News: Tuc Watkins is back as gold digger David Vickers Friday on "One Life to Live," doing double duty with "Desperate Housewives," where he now plays half of the new gay couple on Wisteria Lane. "David turns up at a place called Dreamland, which is a high-priced rehab center to the stars," Watkins says. "He soon meets Alex and turns on the charm."

Non-Profit Shopping Mall: "Guiding Light's" Robert Newman (Josh) and Nicole Forester (Cassie) talk about the show's charitable activities. "From our experience in the Gulf Coast, I learned that a LOT can be accomplished in a very short time when people just show up with open minds and the desire to help. I had NO construction experience when I arrived, yet was patiently taught so many new skills by the team leaders. I discovered that you can learn new skills very quickly when your purpose for learning them is to help other people!"

AfterElton: If you're getting frustrated by the recent slow pace of things with Nuke on "As the World Turns", you might while away some time watching the story of "Coronation Street's" utterly adorable gay character Todd. We've written about him before (and just had the good news Todd looks like he's coming back), but some industrious person took the time to compile all of Todd's storyline into one long clip.

411mania: "Days Of Our Lives" killed off John Black last month, ending actor Drake Hogestyn's 21 year run on the show and setting off lots of angry fan chatter on the internet, including many vows to stop watching the show. Whether coincidence or not, last weeks ratings for Days were the lowest in the show's 40+ year history. While soap operas are famous for resurrecting long thought dead characters, this seemed to be more of a permanent thing as Black died from injuries caused by being the victim of a hit and run driver.

Contact Music: U.K. soap opera "Hollyoaks" was praised for its treatment of gay storylines at the second annual Stonewall Awards.

San Jose Mercury News: Joe Behar has retired as a director of the daytime drama "General Hospital" and is moving with his wife, Carolyn, to Manhattan Beach. They plan on leasing out their Santa Monica home for $15,000 a month. The Santa Monica house was built for the multiple-Emmy winner in 1987 and comes fully furnished, including carpets and antiques. Behar, who won the Directors Guild of America award for "The Ernie Kovacs Show," traces his involvement with "General Hospital" to 1963, when he directed the pilot. He was also a director for "Let's Make a Deal."
