Australia's Foxtel exploits soapie takeover

Foxtel is wasting little time capitalising on Channel 9's "boning" of its long-running afternoon soapy The Young and the Restless.

The series was quickly picked up by Foxtel after it was given the heave-ho by Nine.

And now the pay-TV provider is moving into promotional overdrive, bringing The Young and the Restless star Doug Davidson to Australia to talk up the soap's new TV home.

Davidson, who plays private investigator Paul Williams on the series, will arrive in Australia on April 23 for five days of serious spruiking.

He joined the cast of The Young and the Restless, airing weekdays on the W. Channel, in 1978 and has appeared in more than 3000 episodes.

Much to the fury of fans, Nine booted The Young and the Restless in January to make way for its boring gab-fest The Catch-Up.
