Chad Webb puts "Daytime Soap Operas" at #3 on his list:
"I told myself I wouldn't place a general category on my list, but I had to do it for this one. Has anybody actually flipped through the channels during the day and caught, for a few minutes, what distasteful trash these shows have turned into? When I was little, my mother recorded and watched The Young and the Restless, and the Days of Our Lives every single torturous day of my life. Those shows were like Shakespearian theater compared to today's garbage. I don't want it to sound like I have seen too much of this stuff, but I swear the plots involve aliens, wizardry, and the most over the top murder mysteries known to man. Obviously the acting is horrendous, but that should go without saying. As far as I know, my mom does not watch soap operas any more, and that is a good thing. I would be embarrassed if someone actually admitted to me that they watch this sludge now. It can only make you dumber. Each one of these shows needs to go away and never come back."
My take: This guy probably has never watched a full episode of any soap. The quality of soaps has steadily declined but we don't need a non-soap fan dissing the genre.
