Rich Benson from Tampa, Floria, plays Blake Whitney on SCRIPTS & SCRUPLES. He joined the cast shortly after the show premiered and has been a big hit with fans ever since.
We Love Soaps: What has been your favorite Blake Whitney moment on SCRIPTS & SCRUPLES?
Rich Benson: Actually, I think the one scene with his Aunt Simone, simply because so much was learned about him. Until then, he'd kept such a tight reign on his emotions, and doesn't form attachments, so it was nice to see another side of him, and maybe get a little deeper understanding of what motivates him. There's a lot of pain there.
Also, telling Turner to rot in hell was pretty fun.
WLS: Does Blake have any real friends?
RB: Blake really cares about Raven, and for some reason is able to be "real" with her. I would say she is his one true friend, at this point. I also think his relationship with Marilyn is starting off on the right foot. But we'll see how it goes -- he's a very conflicted character, which is one reason I think he's so fun.
WLS: Do you have any acting inspirations?
RB: Tough question. I did, and had planned a move to NYC before 9/11. I had even made a couple of trips up to meet with casting directors and agents, and had some very good meetings and feedback. I'd even been accepted into a great acting class. But the aftermath of 9/11 and the hard hit the NYC economy took put those plans on hold. Now developments in my personal life have made that move less likely. We'll see, though. Acting is still something I enjoy a lot and is one of my passions.
WLS: What are your favorite hobbies?
RB: I love working at home. I have a terrace garden that is one of my favorite spots, so I love taking care of the plants. Also, I've been learning a lot about wine recently. I'm still in the "Wine for Dummies" stage, but it's great fun. I guess that's a hobby.
WLS: What is your favorite vacation spot?
RB: Really, anywhere cool with pretty sights and good food. I loved Ireland and would love to go back. I also really want to go to Calgary.
WLS: I understand you're a big music fan. Who are your favorites?
RB: Jann Arden, a Canadian artist is my favorite. I don't know why she hasn't had more success in this country. If you get the chance to listen to her music, do! I also really love the Indigo Girls and Mary Chapin Carpenter. Then there's also Eva Cassidy, Nancy LaMott, Wynonna Judd, Alanis Morisette, Paula Cole...I could go on for days. I will say that the use of music on Scripts & Scruples is one of my favorite things about the technical side of the show.
