Election Day Is Here: The Election Season In Photos

Today is the election day here in the United States. I feel this is the most important election of my lifetime so I have dedicated quite a bit of time on the blog trying to cover the various campaigns from a soap perspective. Of course the headliner is the Presidential contest between Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain. But there are a number of other key ballot initiatives and state races that will go a long way in determining the future of this country.

Last week I published a collection of election related videos ranging from a PSA asking people to vote to stars on the campaign trail to original songs.

Now it's time to take a look back at this election season in pictures, from a soap perspective.

ONE LIFE TO LIVE stars BethAnn Bonner (Talia) and Jason Tam (Markko) participated in the "Spare Some Change: NYC Artists for Barack Obama" concert on August 14th to benefit Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

Tam has also contributed to the "NO on Prop 8" fund battling the anti-gay marriage proposition on the California ballots.

He grew up in Hawaii, the state where Barack Obama was born and graduated from high school.

Underwear designer, Andrew Christian, who designed a collection of “Obama 08” briefs, in association with Bridge and Tunnel Communications, produced a “Daytime for Obama” photo shoot on August 15th featuring some of the hottest men and women from daytime soaps including B&B's Ashley Jones, DAYS' Kristen Renton, Y&R's Christel Khalil, DAYS' Blake Berris and B&B's Lesli Kay.

Dozens of Obama supporters rallied on Sunday morning, September 15th, at the Bourbon Street Restaurant in The Villages for a Women for Obama event as part of a "Change We Need" Tour. The event featured U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-NY, and DAYS OF OUR LIVES star Deidre Hall making a stop in the retirement community to campaign for Obama and discuss his policies.

ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Brian Kerwin showed his support for Barack Obama at the Daytime Stars and Strikes charity event held on September 28th.

Kerwin has been playing the role of Charlie on OLTL since last year. His original soap role was as the second Greg Foster on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS back in 1976.

On Wednesday, October 1st, GENERAL HOSPITAL's Nancy Lee Grahn hosted an online chat with friends and fans, to discuss the presidential election. She was joined by GH mates Jane Elliot (Tracy) and Kimberly McCullough (Robin), THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL's Heather Tom, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS' Michelle Stafford, DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Mary Beth Evans, GUIDING LIGHT's Kim Zimmer, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-Illinois) and more.

If you live in the United States and can vote today, please VOTE!
