And Cynthia was mind-bogglingly good and really made her mark with some award-worthy work. So I'm like, 'Oh, s—t!' But I'm bringing my A game and hoping the fans will accept me."

Cady McClain's Directorial Debut 'Flip Fantasia' Now Streaming Online

Soap fans have loved actress Cady McClain for decades thanks to her masterful portrayal of two very different characters: ALL MY CHILDREN's Dixie Cooney Martin and AS THE WORLD TURNS' Rosanna Cabot. She won Emmy Awards for her work on both shows.

In recent years, McClain has expanded her horizons as a writer and we've seen her work appear in places such as Parade.com in addition to her own website.

In 2012, she worked as an associate producer on the multi-festival award-winning film How We Got Away With It. She was involved in every step of the filmmaking process, from inception to color and sound edit to festival submission and sales.

McClain has branched out once again making her directorial debut with Flip Fantasia, a short film "about love, about death, about real people, flawed people, hurt people, young people.. but mostly about love." She also wrote the script!

The film can now be viewed on line. Watch it here (or here with Spanish subtitles).

McClain (@CadyMcClain) is live-tweeting with fans about the film using hashtag #WatchingFlip on Tuesday, September 17 from 3-4 p.m. ET (12-1 p.m. PT).

The CW Targets Royal Baby Photos With Ads For REIGN
To promote its new fall show REIGN, The CW is slapping ads on photos of Prince William and Kate Middleton's newborn son.

Michael French returning to EASTENDERS
French will return to his role as David Wicks later this year. The popular character was last seen in January 2012, when he returned to Albert Square to see his mum, Pat, before she died of cancer. While back home, David reignited his romance with former flame, Carol, with whom he has a daughter, Bianca. But Carol was left angry and broken-hearted when David fled Walford alone on the night they were due to leave together. So how will Carol react when David finally shows his face again?

"It's an absolute honor to have Michael back in the show," says Lorraine Newman, executive producer of EASTENDERS. "Michael created an iconic character in David and with such rich history with Ian, Bianca and of course, Carol, there's plenty to explore in the future."

ALL MY CHILDREN, ONE LIFE TO LIVE Return 2 Years After Cancellation — Online
Naturally television executives are trying to downplay the potential threat to their industry. While conceding that we are experiencing "an evolution of the viewing mechanism," Sony Pictures Television senior executive programming vice president Steve Kent insisted to Variety that "people have long predicted the demise of network television, but it still exists and will for the foreseeable future."

According to Greg Meng, one of the executive producers for DAYS OF OUR LIVES (which is produced by Sony Pictures Television), while network insiders had nothing but the best wishes for this project, they were confident that "these shows won't be competitive with us."

ALL MY CHILDREN & ONE LIFE TO LIVE News Roundup

Can Online Shows Be Habit-Forming? Soaps May Provide Some Clues
Back in 1994, one Kaiser Family Foundation study found that viewing was highest in young women (18-29) and older women (50 and over). But Reuters reported that as of the end of ALL MY CHILDREN's run on ABC, the median viewer age was 57. Hulu, on the other hand, has a younger viewer base — earlier in April, it was reported to have an average age of 38.

So the challenge for Hulu is presumably in two parts: they need a younger audience (candidly, you can't just let the audience age and age and then die), and they need to keep a base level of the older audience that has sustained these shows always. The opening episode of ALL MY CHILDREN on Hulu is fairly transparent on that point — it introduces some younger characters and a high school plot, but also focuses on people who were on when I was a teenager, including Angie and Jesse Hubbard, who became a so-called "supercouple" in the early 1980s and are still making out 30 years later. (And good for them.)

The Beloved Return of Angie and Jessie (Again)
With the regular assaults on Black love and marriage in the media, this is one couple that has stayed the course, no matter how difficult. Their 1980s heyday cemented them in the minds of viewers who weren’t used to seeing a young African-American couple on TV everyday, who were held in equal regard to the White characters on the show.

The lesson of Angie and Jessie may not be that love conquers all (we know it doesn’t), but certainly that when love exists, it’s hard to break its bonds.
