Genie Francis Taken Off Contract at 'General Hospital'

ABC daytime soap opera General Hospital has decided not to renew the contract of actress Genie Francis, according to Daytime Confidential.

Francis debuted on General Hospital as Laura back in 1977. After creating the most famous couple in soap opera history, opposite Anthony Geary's Luke, she exited in 1982. She reprised the role in 1983 and 1984 before returning full-time in 1993. She left again in 2002 and visited in 2006, 2008 and 2013, then went back on contract in 2015.

Francis will only make her way back to Port Charles if the story and timing were ideal, her agent Arthur Toretzky tells EW.

"She did not want to leave the show as a series regular," Toretzky added. "It was not her choice to leave."

Francis tweeted a thank you message after receiving an outpouring of fan support.

"I would like to thank all my wonderful fans for their support," she wrote. "It has made me feel so much better."
