'Guiding Light' Alum Morgan Englund Launches an Indiegogo Campaign for New Song

Morgan Englund, best known as Dylan Lewis on the classic CBS soap opera Guiding Light, launched an Indiegogo campaign on May 3 in an effort to raise $10,000 to make a music video for his song "Homeward Bound (A Firefighter’s Song)." As of today, Morgan had raised $6,148 toward his goal.

Englund stepped away from acting and spent 17 years a paramedic and twelve years as a firefighter while he raised his two children as a single father. Recently, he has made the decision to end his time as paramedic and firefighter to focus on his dream of being a musician. Music is in his family as his great uncle, Jack Albertson, performed on vaudeville and is also best known as Grandpa Joe in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971); his mother, Academy Award-winning actress Cloris Leachman; is a concert level pianist; and his daughter Anabel Englund is singer-songwriter best known for her collaborative work with electronic music group Hot Natured.

“The true sacrifice that early responders make is not known by the public,” said Englund. “It’s a constant physical sacrifice of body, mind, and spirit, meeting the demands of daily challenges and tragedies. But there is also a huge toll that firefighting takes on one’s personal life and family. We plan to illuminate this through the story and lyrics of the music video for Homeward Bound.”

The campaign’s goal of $10,000 on Indiegogo will cover the costs of art and design, equipment, locations, insurance, and campaign perks and fees. Approximately twenty-five artists will touch this project before its completion, including animation compositors, visual editors, set decorators, prop specialists, wardrobe and make-up designers, and award-winning director Andrea Shreeman.

Englund has also partnered with the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. Raising money and awareness for their amazing cause with the Homeward Bound song and video is a dream come true. Once the campaign raises its goal, a donation will be made, in the name of all the contributors, to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation from a portion of the additional funds raised!

“I have been torn between leaving my post at the fire department and following this thumping in my heart,” Englund said. “But, I found a way to honor the men and women who still sacrifice, day after day, to keep us all safe and solve the problems that we as individuals can’t overcome. I plan to debut the song and video in concert with the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, a charity that benefited me when I was with the department, to raise money and awareness for their amazing cause.”

Englund's campaign runs until June 2nd, and supporters can support at https://igg.me/at/AFirefightersSong.
