Maggie Smith stars in Downton Abbey as Violet Crawley,
Dowager Countess of Grantham.
Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning drama Downton Abbey returns to PBS for a sixth and final season of intimately interlaced stories centered on an English country estate in January 2015. The show, which the highest-rated drama in PBS history, premieres on September 20 in the UK.

Making their bittersweet farewell are members of the beloved cast, including Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Jim Carter, Joanne Froggatt, Penelope Wilton, Phyllis Logan, Laura Carmichael, Brendan Coyle, Lesley Nicol, Sophie McShera, Robert James-Collier, Allen Leech, Kevin Doyle, Samantha Bond, David Robb, Raquel Cassidy and Michael Fox.

The UK's ITV network has released a trailer for the final season. Watch it below:

  1. I'm not the biggest DA fan but I do hope that by the end, Lady Edith is now a glamorous, sophisticated woman who saves the estate from the ruin brought on by her idiot family, who must grovel at her feet in gratitude.

  2. Looks as if some of the 'downstairs' folk will become part of the 'landed gentry'. Daisy, Carson and Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Patmore and the Bates' will all be property owners. I have a feeling by the end of the series, we may get a glimpse of them exiting DA and onto managing their lives on their own properties.

    1. I'd love a Six Feet Under type ending where we find out what happens to them in the future as times change. The creator hasn't ruled out a film down the line so it doesn't seem like they're going that route. I'm looking forward to the final season; just wish we could watch it at the same time as the UK.
