Wally Kurth Back on Contract with 'Days of our Lives'

Wally Kurth
Wally Kurth, who has been on recurring status on both Days of our Lives (as Justin Kiriakis) and General Hospital (as Ned Ashton) has inked a contract to remain in Salem full-time, according to Daytime Confidential.

"I was flattered that Days offered me a contract," Kurth told Soap Opera Digest. "My first in 10 years. Justin is a character I created in 1987 and I am really excited to be given the opportunity to be even more featured on the show. They have big things planned for him. Obviously, it is bittersweet, since I also consider Ned my own and was really enjoying being back in the Q family. I did try to keep them both going but it wasn't meant to be."

There's no word yet on when or how GH will wrap up Ned's storyline.

UPDATE:
Judi Evans (Adrienne) and Mary Beth Evans (Kayla) are both also back on contract with Days.

  2. To bad he settled for a failing soap like DAYS...I enjoyed him as Ned on GH!

    1. "Failing soap?" All of the current soaps have comparable ratings, so they are all failing. Both DAYS and GH have recently hit all-time lows in their key demographic (women 18-49.)

I like DAYS and think the writing is better and sharper than GH. GH lacks focus and the stories drag with no payoff in sight.

Personally, I'd rather watch Justin Kiriakis in an adult relationship with adult dialogue with Adrienne over in Salem versus Ned Ashton in that foolish retread of a story already told on GH fifteen years ago!

Moving Wally Kurth to contract gives me hope as DAYS enters its 50th year. I think Adrienne (Judi Evans) has proven to be a vital character, Bo and Patch are returning (Peter Reckell and Stephen Nichols.) And it's currently showcasing daytime's only true love triangle (Will/Sonny/Paul) which happens to be the best story in daytime. I have been a longtime DAYS fan and would have never imagined that in it's 50th year one of it's biggest stories features a gay love triangle!
