On this date in...

1967: Erik Howell debuted as Johnny Fletcher on The Guiding Light, replacing Don Scardino in the role.

1967: On Dark Shadows, Roger (Louis Edmonds) demanded Willie (John Karlen) leave Collinwood immediately.



1970: On Another World, Rachel (Robin Strasser) asked Lenore (Judith Barcroft) to draw a picture of Jamie that Russ could hang in his office.

1970: Actor Ed Begley, who played Rev. Dr. Paul Keeler in The Guiding Light's original television cast, died at age 69.

1975: Writer/Producer George Lowther (The Edge of Night, The Secret Storm) died at age 62.

1978: On Ryan's Hope, Father McShane (John Perkins) became concerned for Delia (Ilene Kristen) when she arrived at his office behaving strangely and told him what has happened. Later, Delia told her dead mother that the Ryans had condemned her and feared that God was punishing her for all that she had done.



1980: On The Edge of Night, Raven (Sharon Gabet) got drunk at the disco, and was stunned when she later heard Jamey was ill.



1980: Brett Williams debuted on Days of our Lives as Tod Chandler.

1981: On General Hospital, Heather (Robin Mattson) and Sarah (Eileen Dietz) exchanged threats.



1987: On Days of our Lives, Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) denied to Jack that she was in love with Steve (Stephen Nichols).



1988: Leslie Schofield debuted as Brian Wicks in EastEnders.

1989: On Dallas, Afton (Audrey Landers) told Cliff (Ken Kercheval) that he was not Pamela's father.

1994: Nathan Fillion debuted as Joey Buchanan on One Life to Live.



1995: Kale Browne returned to Another World as Michael Hudson more than two years after his last appearance.

1997: On As the World Turns, Kirk (Tom Wiggin) held Samantha at gunpoint while Hal attempted to remedy the situation. As he walked Kirk and Samantha to a helicopter, the district attorney attempted to wrestle the gun out of Kirk's hand. The episode ended with a gunshot and a scream. Meanwhile, James told Lucinda that their child was still alive, but Lucinda insisted that the baby was stillborn.

1999: Actor Rory Calhoun, who played Judson Tyler on Capitol, died at age 76.

2006: The 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were held in Hollywood for the first time. General Hospital was named Outstanding Drama Series. Rick Springfield opened the show with a performance.



2008: BBC One premiered afternoon soap Out of the Blue. The series only lasted one season.

2012: Actor Walter Matthews, who played recurring roles on Another World as Gerald Davis (1970-1974) and General Hospital as Clyde Bingham (1981), died at age 85.
