Conceived over a lunch between Lauren Parker and Damien Graham of Triangle Transit's communication team, AS THE BUS STOPS is the organization's attempt to make public transportation approachable in a city that doesn't have quite the same appreciation for shared seats as New York or LA.

Parker and her team got together and made two lists; First, a list of all the services they would like potential riders to know about; Second, a list of all the tropes of a good soap opera. Put them together and and it's only a matter of time before the research triangle becomes the love triangle.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW: Emmy-award winning TCU professor Richard J. Allen looks forward to world premiere
Back in his days as an Emmy Award-winning soap opera writer, Richard J. Allen brainstormed inventive plot turns that led to climactic cliffhanging endings in AS THE WORLD TURNS, DAYS OF OUR LIVES, GENERAL HOSPITAL and ONE LIFE TO LIVE.

He let that go for "Starbright & Vine," his comedy about an aging writer who teams up with a disillusioned actress to write a sketch for an awards show on national television. It makes its world premiere at Stage West, with previews starting Thursday. It opens Saturday.

"For years and years I was very story-oriented," Allen, 54, says from his office at Texas Christian University, where he’s a professor of film, television and digital media. "What surprised me most was that I could focus on the characters being together instead of having a contrived crisis, conflict and ending. It was a pleasure. The play wrote itself."
