Michael Muhney Fired From THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS For 'Allegedly Groping Co-Stars Breasts'

TMZ is reporting the reason Michael Muhney got fired from THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and the role of Adam Newman was he bullied and harassed a co-star, grabbing her breasts...twice.
Multiple sources connected to the show tell TMZ ... 38-year-old Muhney allegedly bullied and harassed 20-year-old Hunter King, who plays Summer on the show. She went to higher-ups and complained recently Muhney had fondled her breasts on 2 occasions -- and she said both were unsolicited and unwanted.
On December 17, Muhney announced on Twitter that he had been let go from Y&R.

"I'm so sorry," he wrote. "It breaks my heart to say this, but I was just let go from Y&R. My last day on set is this Thursday. My last air date will be Jan 30th. I'm going to take some private time with my wife & kids, as I am most concerned for their well-being…I have 3 final episodes to film, and because they are my last, I will be giving it everything I have. More details will follow... #xoxoxo"

Our sources have told us from the beginning that Muhney's exit was a human resources issues. If true, he can not return to Y&R or work for Sony Pictures Television (which also produces DAYS OF OUR LIVES) despite vocal fan protests. Muhney fans are are threatening to boycott the soap.

Muhney's last airdate is currently scheduled for January 30th.

  1. This would explain why so many people at Y&R have been quiet about this.

    1. Weren't you and I the ones who noticed his apologetic tone in his interview? I felt like something bad was going on from then.

  2. Whatever the truth is I hope fans leave Hunter King alone.

    1. I hope so too but unfortunately, I've already read some fans lashing out. It's a bad look on them and they need to stop. It looks even worse, since the Daytime soap was started by a woman and had been known as a Women's medium.
To be hostile toward a young woman who appears to be the victim would be atrocious.

    2. they aren't David Miller.... the name calling is disgusting. I feel heartbroken for her..

  3. No wonder Y&R been so hush hush about the situation..

  4. I knew his firing had to do with inappropriate behavior behind the scenes. While immensely talented, Muhney has a lot to learn about how to behave and conduct himself. SInce he was let go, there was an investigation and there was evidence of his guilt. Onward and updaward, Y&R. Hunter King was very brave for speaking out.

  5. If this is true, it seems odd that Muhney would have immediately gone to Twitter to announce his firing. More likely, if he indeed did this, he would have left quietly. And certainly not given an interview afterwards. . And as some have posted on other sites, he would have been fired immediately after the complaint. Based on the way his storyline is playing now, (with 3 more weeks left before he leaves), it appears his dismissal was in the works for some time before he was let go. So I can't help but be skeptical about this.

    1. His exit would have to be in the works for some time because Sony would need to do an investigation about the claims.

    2. I wouldn't doubt that he knew way back on November 5, when he first left twitter, as that could have been when the show gave him notice. I say this, because that's exactly six weeks prior to December 17 when he made the public announcement that he was being cut. I recall that when the show let Nia Peeples go, then brought her back, she said in an interview that it was because they hadn't given her the proper six-weeks notice prior to when her next 26-week cycle was to begin. I'm thinking his contract cycles began in December (based on his June 2015 contract date). IOW, if they wanted to cut him quick and easy, simply based on the terms of his contract and cycle dates, then they'd have gone by the book and given him that six-week notice in November. - jmho

    3. Also, when it comes to any kind of "investigation" or "when he would be let go," that process could be somewhat different for an actor who is more like an independent contractor than an employee. If the employer has received legitimate complaints against a contract employee, then they might just wait and release that person when they can per the terms of the contract -- thereby avoiding a formal investigation and any legally-based dismissal as with regular employees. End of discussion. I notice the TMZ article uses the phrase "the new allegations were the proverbial 'straw that broke the camel's back.'" If true, it sounds like there had been other issues raised over time and these new allegations were some kind of tipping point. They may looked at the calendar, saw that his contract cycle was forthcoming and considered that was simply the easiest way to go. - jmho

  6. Sharon Case made a lovely exit tribute to Michael. I think we should hear the whole story before judging. Maybe Hunter was just a young girl with a crush and retaliated. Who knows.

    1. I agree with Sharon, and I am so piss off with the allegation, this is not right. They can't ruin someone's reputations because the young girl needs publicity.
The Young and Restless is disgusting , I am done with it.

  7. When I first hear about this I thought it was producer related. Now this is a whole different ballgame. What the hell was he thinking? What makes this so disgusting is he is a married man with children, who he apparently didn't give a thought to. And then there is Hunter who is only 20 yrs old. What in the name of god was he thinking or trying to prove besides to humiliate and sexually harass a young girl who is also a castmate. I know without a doubt he wasn't thinking about his family and how this would effect them.

  8. I would be surprised IF this turned out to be true. Muhney doesn't strike me as the type. At fan events, he ha been nothing but awesom and respectful to both his female and gay male fans.

Considering who is the EP of Y&R and HER history at past shows, something just doesn't smell right.

It's disturbing that people automatically think Muhney is wrong and King is right.

    1. Why is everyone blaming him. Those girls run around there half naked and tease, don't always blame the man.

    2. I agree - what if she went after him and he said no! What a better way than cry the victim!

      Delete
    3. If that were true, Muhney would have said so. He knew why he fired but acted as if he didn't in an exit interview, even letting fans think Eric Braeden might have something to do with it.

    4. Ever hear of a little thing called a "gag order?" It means you can't say anything about your firing/dismissal other than you were let go and the reason they gave for it.

I doubt very highly that Muhney groped anyone. His contract had been renewed just this past spring (March, I believe) for two years. What better way to make sure someone can never come back than to completely blacken their name, even if it's not true? Look how many people are already saying he IS guilty with nothing more to go on than an anonymous post on another soap web site....

  9. Why are so many soap fans BLAMING THE VICTIM? Seriously? It's toxic and gross and if one's fandom makes them do that, something is terribly, awfully wrong.

  10. When he had his accident, a few years ago, I e-mailed him 'Get Well Wishes.' He responded by saying that he was very grateful for my concern. Sometime after that, my e-mail account was hacked into, and, apparenty, some very nasty things were being sent to my e-mail connections. Muhney contacted me, quite perturbed, and cut me off from his e-mail connections. I didn't blame him. I don't know what to say about these new revelations, other than I am appalled at such behavior. Is he going through a mid-life crisis? Is it a '7 year itch?' The best analogy I can make is akin to John Edwards' very public confession to ABC News, (Aug 2008) when he said that he had reached such heights that he believed he 'could do whatever you want, there won't be any consequences, you're invincible.' If these allegations are true about Muhney, and I am afraid they are, I would suggest that he take a good close look at himself in the mirror, and admit that his actions, and his actions alone, caused his own undoing.

  11. If this happened to Hunter King i have the upmost sympathy for her.., But c'mon TWICE this should have been said out in public the 1st time it happened wtf? & if Muhney did touch her inapporiate way then he deserve some type of suspension but hey us fans will never really know the real truth their only gonna say what 'they' wanna put out to us

  13. Maybe he does really believe that he is Adam Newman and can get away with anything he wants. I read he also “walked around with a big backpack full of hubris”! I’m sure the studio ran a very extensive investigation on this situation; you don’t say something like this about a person if it wasn’t true! There is many other reason to fire someone! I’m glad they took this course of action he deserves it; I know I wouldn’t want to work with someone like this wondering when he was going to touch me inappropriately! While out of work he should spend his time getting some psychiatric help!!!!!!

    1. The "backpack of hubris" comment is a direct quote by Michael in his interview with Nelson Branco on December 18th.
