SOAPnet Off The Air

SOAPnet went off the air at midnight on New Year's Eve despite protests from soap fans who watched same day repeats of DAYS OF OUR LIVES and GENERAL HOSPITAL.

Disney last month announced that SOAPnet would finally cease operations as part of a shift in corporate priorities.

"SOAPnet had a great run," Ben Pyne, president of global distribution for Disney Media Networks, said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times in November. "It served an audience of super-soap fans. And when given the opportunity, all of our affiliates kept the channel up and running."

Aside from watching DAYS OF OUR LIVES and GENERAL HOSPITAL live, or adding them to your DVR, there are other ways to catch both shows.

GENERAL HOSPITAL fans can visit watchabc.com to watch episodes online. DAYS OF OUR LIVES fans can watch at nbc.com. Both shows are available on Hulu. You can also find episodes "on demand" on some cable systems.

Same day repeats of THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL air at night on TVGN.

  1. It is shame that SOAPNET never became what I think soap fans wanted. There is definitely an audience that would watch episodes from shows from the 1950’s to the present. It always felt like SOAPNET never wanted to embrace soap fans and did not want to pay to show soaps. It would rather show a marathon of 90210 or One Tree Hill than a Ryan’s Hope, Santa Barbara, Edge of Night or old episodes of ATWT or Guiding Light. Had support SOAPNET really supported daytime maybe we would have more than just 4 soaps left on network TV.

  2. I think that Disney cancelling soap net is really lousy. I always taped my shows from it and also watched it. I am very annoyed by this decision, and I am not happy with Disney. Hopefully everyone who watched soap net will boycott Disney

  6. What's the new deal with Hulu? The GH page now says:
Beginning January 6th, you can view an episode within the first week after it airs on ABC by signing in with a participating TV provider subscription account on Hulu.

Does that mean having Hulu Plus won't be enough to watch the day after now? I don't think I like that.

  7. I feel lost without SoapNet. I have been watching two General Hospital classic episodes everyday for years. Can't get this off my mind. I'm hoping that maybe TVGN or some other network will start airing General Hospital and OLTL. Please bring back SoapNet!

  8. Besides appreciating SoapNet for recapping those interrupted episodes, I had been "catching up" on the storyline from older General Hospital episodes a few years ago. It really helped to put things together since I hadn't been able to watch GH in decades. Why can't these shows be picked up by another network??? How will I ever find out what REALLY Happened with Jason and Sam or Jason and Liz; I want to see Lulu and Dante's wedding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know I can read the synopsis, but it's just NOT THE SAME!!!!!!

  9. Why would you cancel SoapNet. It doesn't make any sense. But then most things people do today are crazy. I only had the extra cable channels so that I could watch the soaps at night, now I can cancel cable and get Netflix.
