NEWS: Jason Connery to GENERAL HOSPITAL; Primetime Emmys Defend Choice Of Cory Monteith For Individual Tribute

Backstage: Can the Internet Really Save Soap Operas?
Roger Newcomb, editorial director of the website We Love Soaps, said part of the problem was that Prospect Park prioritized actors over writers.

“They hired pretty much everyone from behind the scenes of the daytime soap world,” he said. “I wish they could have had a mix of some of these really brilliant indie producers or directors or writers mixed in who know how to really tell stories for the Web.”

Primetime Emmys Exec Producer Defends Choice Of Cory Monteith For Individual Tribute
"Cory’s appeal was to maybe a little different generation than some of the others, and we felt they needed to be represented," Ehrlich said, reminding the reporters Monteith was "just 31" when he died under "very tragic circumstances." "It was important to be responsive to younger viewers, to whom Cory Monteith meant as much as the other four individuals meant to their own generations. We made the choice it was important to have, as part of these segments." Ehrlich admitted that when the decision was made to include Monteith, "there was discussion about the fact that this probably is going to become an interesting topic of conversation. We stand by what we’re doing."

  1. LonelyGirl15 proved that the web is the perfect place for the soaps. The fanbase was riveted to the show every day on weekdays for 4 years and their famous "12in12" at the end of each season, (12 episodes every hour on the hour for 12 hours straight,) would be even crazier in terms of the comments and fans on the edge of their seats waiting for the next one. Everything the best soaps have been able to succeed at for decades.

You can definitely recapture this today because the soaps have the same kind of loyal followings that live and die for their shows.
