Today in Soap Opera History (June 26)


On this date in...

1936: NBC Blue Radio aired the final episode of BACKSTAGE WIFE in the 4:15 p.m. timeslot. The show moved to mornings for two years before returning to afternoon in 1938.

1939: NBC Blue aired the final episode of short-lived radio soap opera ORPHANS OF DIVORCE. Margaret Anglin starred as Nora Kelly Worthington.

1946: On radio soap ROSEMARY, Rosemary (Betty Winkler) stopped at a drug store to use the telephone to call Dr. Jim (Bill Adams) about Bill's memory return. Listen below.



1968: On ANOTHER WORLD, Sam (Jordan Charney) was suspicious of his niece, the social climbimg Rachel (Robin Strasser). He smiled when she said they could be friends now that they were traveling in the same high-class circles (Rachel married Russ earlier in 1968 on January 3). Sam moved to SOMERSET in 1970 with his wife, Lahoma.

1978: Stephen Schnetzer debuted as Steve Olson in DAYS OF OUR LIVES.  Check out a promo below:



1983: LOVING, created by Agnes Nixon and Douglas Marland, premiered on ABC in primetime as a two-hour movie.







1987: On GUIDING LIGHT, Rick Bauer (Michael O'Leary) returned to the delight of Phillip (Grant Aleksander) and Chelsea (Kassie Wesley, now DePaiva).



2000: Actor Logan Ramsey died at age 79.  His soap roles included Joseph Anthony in THE YOUNG ADN THE RESTLESS and Scofield Kilborn on THE EDGE OF NIGHT.

2002: On PASSIONS, with the baby through its crisis, the state troopers planned on taking Theresa (Lindsay Hartley) to death row.



2003: On ONE LIFE TO LIVE, Dorian (Robin Strasser) told Starr (Kristen Alderson) she would handle Walker.

2007: On HOLLYOAKS, a confused and conflicted Craig Dean (Guy Burnet) said "I love you" to John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) for the first time ... then led him upstairs.
