NEWS: William Roache in Court, Van Hansis, JWOWW, Riff Raff, BAFTAs, Jess Walton, GLEE Couple Alert

CORONATION STREET actor Bill Roache appears in court over rape charge
After District Judge Jane Goodwin entered he was asked his full name, date of birth and address.

Prosecutor Joanna White then explained: “He is charged with two allegations of rape dating back to 1967. These are matters that can only be dealt with at crown court.”

There was no indication of a plea but Ms White did stress: “It is not an early guilty plea matter.

“He appears on bail with four conditions. I don’t propose to outline them all to the court. Mr. Roache is well aware of them.”

Roache’s solicitor Mr Russell said he had “nothing to add at this stage”. The star was granted bail on condition of residence at two addresses – one his home in Wilmslow, Cheshire, and the other in London.

The other conditions are to have no unsupervised contact with anyone under 16, Lancashire Police must hold his passport and he must not approach two named persons.

District Judge Goodwin then told Roache: “These matters cannot be dealt with at this court. I now formally send them to Preston Crown Court on the June 10.

“I must warn you, if you breach any of the bail conditions and don’t attend court you risk being arrested and kept in custody. Do you understand?”

Roache calmly replied: “I do understand, yes.”
