Steve Burton Joining THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS?

When Steve Burton first announced his departure from GENERAL HOSPITAL a few months ago, fans immediately speculated his former GH boss, Jill Farren Phelps, would bring him to her new show, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, where she serves as executive producer. TV Guide Magazine is reporting it may have finally happened.
Reliable sources tell TV Guide Magazine that Emmy winner Steve Burton, former star of ABC's General Hospital, has signed up for a major role on CBS' The Young and the Restless. The gig, due to start soon, will have the insanely popular actor working once again for his ex-GH boss Jill Farren Phelps.
The news is still unconfirmed by CBS at the moment.

Who would you like to see Burton play on Y&R? Avery's ex (Dylan McAvoy)? A recast J.T. Hellstrom? A brand new character?

  1. I am a fan but with the news about Stephen Nichols I was actually hoping Y & R was getting back to the characters we watched for years on this show.

  2. For months several online posters have been joking and teasing about this happening since JFP took the reins at Y&R. Boy, were they ever right! Ugh. I guess I won't be going back to watch this show anytime to soon.

  3. Steve's a really great guy so I'm going to reserve judgment at least until we know for sure who he's playing. But I can understand some of the sentiment I'm seeing on Twitter and around the web--it's a predictable move many were expecting in a time daytime soap fans are hoping for some real change to keep the shows fresh and on the air.

I'd love it if he were playing a recast Phillip III and a new gay storyline was born. Now THAT would be unexpected and a nice departure from what we saw on GH. If it's a character that is the same or similar to Jason, I can see some fans rejecting it before it even has a chance.

I'm not going to sell Steve short though. He left GH looking for a new challenge and maybe this will give it to him.

It would have been such a water-cooler moment if he just showed up one day in a Y&R episode versus us knowing/dissecting it in advance. I hope the rest of daytime takes GH's lead in keeping some things under wraps until they air.

  4. I hearing Billy Miller is leaving still when his contract is up and if he was possible recast as Billy Abbott that is far from Jason Morgan. The bashing is starting already simply because being Y&R which is typical now days. Steve might want a completely different type of role to play. This might be the opportunity to do this and it could be refreshing for him. I'm reserving my judgement also my first thought was Dylan connected to Avery or JT...lets wait see.

  5. Not really thrilled about this, but will take a wait-see.

Agewise, Burton's much more in the Nick/Avery generation than the Billy/JT generation, so I'm guessing he's connected to Avery. We just saw Dylan McAvoy's dogtags, and we've also received hints that Phyllis is about to investigate Avery's divorce, so that could be the way he's introduced.

But woe to the actor who's (eventually) brought on to replace Billy Miller. If/when that happens, there should be a good four-to-six month break before they introduce a NuBilly.

  6. I would love this to be Avery ex so he will be interesting in Phyllis not knowing that she is Avery sister and to see how this all play out that would be a good storyline and to see Phyllis & Avery ex work together to get back at Nick &Avery every chance they got that would be nice.

  7. I wonder what was real reason that caused him to bolt from GH. From what I have read was one of daytime's highest paid thespians. Could be GH is now like the Andrea Doria right after being slammed by the Stockholm?

  9. I wish JFP would hire Rebecca Herbst as MacKenzie! Then build a relationship between Herbst's and Burton's characters. That wod be awesome and game-changing. GH toyed with fans far too long with Liz/Jason pairing and it's apparent the new regime at GH don't care to write for Herbst. Just wishful thinking.

  10. I would love to see Steve, back on General Hospital. I thought he was moving to Tenesse, so he could spend more time with his family. I will not be happy to know that Steve went to The Young and the Restless. I want him back on GH!! That's my final answer!

    1. I agree. I need Steve back on GH with Sam. His sudden departure left a void that can not be filled anytime soon. All of the old actors of Gh returning, Robin, AJ or OLTL actors together - don't measure up to Jason/ Steve. I have watched GH for 40 years. I have only missed Steve in all that time. He was something special, even better with Sam. Best super couple . Fell in love with Jasam since 2004.
