On this date in...1897: Vera Allen was born. As an actress she played Peggy O'Neill in THE O'NEILLS, Kass in FROM THESE ROOTS, Granny Matthews in the ANOTHER WORLD original cast, and Ida Weston in SEARCH FOR TOMORROW. She died on August 10, 1987 at age 89.
1964: On ANOTHER WORLD, Bill (Joseph Gallison) and Missy (Carol Roux) shared a kiss on the bridge.
1970: On DAYS OF OUR LIVES, the Hortons celebrated Thanksgiving. Said Tom Horton (Macdonald Carey): "Bless this food, and give us the courage and strength to live to the fullest of all the days of our lives that lie ahead of us."
1979: On THE EDGE OF NIGHT, Nola (Kim Hunter) insisted to Brian (Stephen McNaughton) that he only wanted Paige (Margaret Colin) because she was unattainable. McNaughton and Colin aired for the final time on EDGE two episodes later.
1981: DALLAS aired its final episode in the 10 p.m. timeslot, moving to 9 p.m. for the next nine years. In "The Split," Jock unveiled the new plan for Ewing Oil. Meanwhile, Ray's development ran into problems and Donna's book was published. FALCON CREST premiered at 10 p.m. the next week.
1986: DAYS OF OUR LIVES celebrated Thanksgiving with a special episode full of flashbacks.
1989: Peter Bergman debuted as Jack Abbott on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, replacing Terry Lester in the role. Bergman came in at No. 6 in our 50 Greatest Soap Actors of All-Time countdown in 2010.
1989: Stella Stevens debuted on SANTA BARBARA as Phyllis Blake, Gina's mother.
1995: On ONE LIFE TO LIVE, Carlotta (Patricia Mauceri) agreed to go out on a date with Clint (Clint Ritchie).
1997: Actress Abby Lewis died at age 87. She played Lena Andrews in SOMERSET, Grand Duchess in ANOTHER WORLD, Mrs. Jackson in AS THE WORLD TURNS, and also appeared in VALIANT LADY.
2006: Thore Schölermann debuted as Christian Mann on the popular German soap VERBOTEN LIEBE (Forbidden Love).
2006: Matthew Morrison aired for the final time as Adam on AS THE WORLD TURNS after a short run which ended due to a "scheduling conflict."
