Today in Soap Opera History (October 3)

On this date in...

1944: PORTIA FACE LIFE debuted on NBC Radio for the second time.  The show moved from CBS Radio to NBC to CBS and back to NBC again.  Later there was an Australian radio version (which ran until 1970) and a CBS-TV daytime series (1954-1955).

1952: THE ADVENTURES OF OZZIE AND HARRIET premiered.  Other great TV shows that premiered on October 3rd in history include FATHER KNOWS BEST (1954), THE REAL MCCOYS (1957), THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW (1960) and THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW (1961).

1972: On ANOTHER WORLD, Alice agreed to see Steve and told Mary she was tired of running away when things got rough.

2001: On AS THE WORLD TURNS, Jake and Molly were married.



2003: The final episode GENERAL HOSPITAL spin-off PORT CHARLES aired on ABC.



2004: DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES premiered on ABC and was watched by 21.6 million viewers.

Getting rid of Jake McKinnon at ATWT was one of the stupidest things ever. After spending all that time weaving him into Oakdale, it was colossally stupid to kill him off.
