EMMERDALE FARM premiered on October 16, 1972. Known as simply EMMERDALE since 1989, the show is celebrating its 40th anniversary week with two births, two weddings and a funeral. Wednesday's episode will be broadcast live.
"This is going to be a spectacular week," says producer Stuart Blackburn, who is moving on to CORONATION STREET. And he promises Wednesday will see "all of life and soap in one crazy, manic, exciting, chilling, scary hour."

EMMERDALE's live episode (airing on Wednesday at 7 p.m. GMT on ITV1) will be shot entirely on-location at the program's village base. Producers have vowed to concentrate on character drama rather than a disaster or huge stunts.
