THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS Celebrates 10,000 With Funeral Of Victor Newman

Daytime’s top-rated soap, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, will celebrate a milestone 10,000th episode on Thursday, September 27 (12:30-1:30 PM, ET; 11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, PT) on CBS. The show will also celebrate its 40th anniversary next March.

In the episode, surprises await the characters as they gather for the funeral of presumed dead billionaire Victor Newman (Eric Braeden).

Former spouses Christine (Lauralee Bell) and Danny (Michael Damian), who enjoyed a passionate and poignant reunion the last time they saw each other, will be back. Also appearing will be Christine's pal Nina (Tricia Cast), in town a lot lately to support the beleaguered Paul, and Traci Abbott Connelly (Beth Maitland), whose brother Jack may need her support if his play for Newman stock goes south.

“We’re proud to have reached this milestone,” said Angelica McDaniel, Senior VP, Daytime, CBS Entertainment. “10,000 episodes of a show is almost unheard of in television, and on behalf of everyone at CBS, Sony and the Bell Dramatic Serial Company, congratulations to the wonderful cast, the crew and the fans of THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. We have many more stories to tell and are excited for what lies ahead.”

“THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS marking its 10,000th episode is a testament to the solid storytelling, compelling characters and the production elements, earning the loyalty of daytime audiences for over four decades,” said Steve Kent, Senior Executive Vice President, Programming, Sony Pictures Television. “We honor all of the producers, writers, actors and crew who have contributed to this amazing achievement.”

Y&R stars Joshua Morrow (Nicolas Newman) and Sharon Case (Sharon Newman) will appear on THE TALK, Wednesday, September 26 (2:00-3:00 PM, ET; 1:00-2:00 PM, PT/CT) to preview the landmark 10,000th episode

  1. Another funeral for a character that's not dead?

  2. ...and isn't this the 2nd or 3rd time he's "not dead"??

  3. I'm a sucker for Victor and Nikki but daytime soaps overplayed the back from the dead card making it very tough for me to invest in the funerals and grief after a "death" unless it is for a character played by a beloved longtime actor who we know has passed away.

  5. It's gotten so bad that the only funerals you know are real are for characters played by long-term actors like Frances Reid. Otherwise, never bother to invest in a funeral because at some point the character will turn up alive again.

    Sigh . . .

  6. Ho hum ... Yet we still haven't gotten the Liz Foster Memorial they promised us when they shipped her body off to some research clinic for science. The cremains were supposed to be returned for a celebration of her life.
