Steve Burton: 'I’m Going To See What Other Doors Are Open Out There'

GENERAL HOSPITAL's Steve Burton
Steve Burton shared his thoughts about leaving GENERAL HOSPITAL in a new interview with George Pennacchio of KABC Television.

"I've grappled with the decision for a long time," Burton says. "You know, it's hard to even really talk about it because I’ve been there for twenty-one years and it's been such a blessing to be able to have a job that long. I think the door is open. I’m just going to see what other doors are open out there.”

Burton, the businessman, has invested in a Chicago beer bar and a studio city gourmet pizza restaurant. Plus, he's working on a new novela with former GH executive producer Jill Farren Phelps and guest star James Franco. He also wants to produce and direct. And his band, Port Chuck?

“Port Chuck is going to live on,” Burton assures. “We're going to go out on the road, actually, in February for another, I think, fourteen cities in fourteen days. We're going to go crazy.”

Burton knows his final days will be tough.

“I guess it would be easier to say, ‘I’m leaving,’ and then be gone and not have to be there for another month, you know? And drive onto the lot and do those things that you're used to doing every single day that now I’m going to have time to think, ‘Hey, I’m not going to be driving on this lot again.’ You know? And I just definitely have a different perspective going to work.” he goes on to say, “I'll find myself getting, like now… it'll be hard.”

  1. Here's hoping at least one of those "open doors" leads to an acting class. I've seen Muppets deliver performances with greater emotional range than Steve Burton!
