  1. Is that you, Roger? I know you're tall and everything but you must be so much taller than everyone else in this clip (LOL).
    Seriously...
Concise yet fantastic interview with Mr. Maloney. I look forward to getting my hands on this book so I can read it. It is so telling what he said about how William J. Bell chose to pace the show and how confident he was in creating his characters and storylines and also how he was able to take events from topical issues while maintaining consistency in his characters. I get so annoyed when people say that they fear that the 'old' way of doing things would be making the storylines too slow. My response is "well, you don't notice when the writing is so well done that you're hooked in and invested". Today's Y&R should be so lucky as to have that 'old' type of storytelling, the ratings would be so much higher!

If dreams do indeed come true and one day, we get a PBS type documentary series (a la Jazz or Baseball by Ken Burns) on the history and cultural impact of the Daytime Drama, someone like Michael Maloney would have to and should be included in such a series.

    Very insightful interview!
