On this date in...

1966: On DARK SHADOWS, Vicki told Liz that David tried to hurt her.

1980: Beverlee McKinsey made her final appearance as Iris on ANOTHER WORLD (a Friday episode). The show aired its final 90-minute episode which included Russ and Tracy's wedding.  The following Monday (August 4), Iris would be spun off into her own show, TEXAS, and ANOTHER WORLD reverted back to 60 minutes.  Watch the episode below:



1981: MTV first aired at 12:01 a.m. GENERAL HOSPITAL's Rick Springfield had the No. 1 song in the U.S. that week with "Jessie's Girl," but the new network did not play a Springfield video that first day.

1985: The 12th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were held in New York. Two new acting categories were added Outstanding Ingenue in a Daytime Drama Series (THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS' Tracey E. Bregman won) and Outstanding Young Man in a Daytime Drama Series (won by AS THE WORLD TURNS actor Brian Bloom). THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS was named Outstanding Daytime Drama Series. The other acting winners were Darnell Williams, Kim Zimmer (whose hair that night was unforgettable), Larry Gates and Beth Maitland (who became Y&R's first acting winner ever since the Supporting Actress category was the first one presented that night).





1991: On SANTA BARBARA, Sophia was in a coma and Kelly tried to get C.C. and Mason to reconcile.



1994: Soap diva Eileen Fulton from AS THE WORLD TURNS performed at the Ice Palace in Cherry Grove on Fire Island.

2005: The BBC World Service launched its first online soap opera, THE FLATMATES.

2007: On PASSIONS, Julian and Tabitha had a heart-to-heart talk about Vincent.

  2. OMG! The final 90 minute episode of Another World was 32 years ago today.

    I remember it so well. Final scene was Iris getting on the plane headed back to Bay City while Alex Wheeler was trying to get the plane stopped. That had me glued to my TV the following Monday for the Texas official debut.

    Hard to imagine something I remember so clearly being 32 years ago.

  3. James, I was 10 and I remember it clearly. I have a rotten memory for real life events, but for some reason a lot of soap "moments" stick with me.
