Two More GLEE PROJECT Contenders Go Home

Tuesday’s episode of Oxygen’s THE GLEE PROJECT challenged the remaining contenders with “Dance-ability” featuring a homework assignment to “We Got the Beat” by the Go-Go’s. Before the performance even began, Taryn Douglas (22) of Detroit left the competition and went home. Season one winner and now GLEE star Samuel Larsen (Joseph Hart) returned to the classroom as guest mentor for the same theme he won last year.

While Larsen was witness to the best homework assignment performance THE GLEE PROJECT has ever seen, according to on-air mentor Robert Ulrich, the contenders failed to bring their A-game during the main assignment, the LMFAO “Party Rock Anthem” music video shoot. After disappointing all three judges, Lily Mae Harrington, Tyler Ford and Dani Shay were placed in the bottom three and were asked to do last chance performances.

Following a strong rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide,” Dani Shay (23) of Orlando, FL was not invited to the call back. Shay has been performing since fifth grade and grew up teaching herself how to play the guitar and write original songs. Already a self-established artist, she exuberated a strong sense of independence and passion, but failed to adapt to a new persona when asked to perform throughout “Dance-ability” week. Ultimately, the decision was made and Shay was sent home.

Prior to appearing on THE GLEE PROJECT, Shay had made it to the Top 48 of AMERICA'S GOT TALENT season six last year (2011). She has gained a strong following for her vocal abilities, and has already written and independently released four albums and two singles. She originally auditioned for THE GLEE PROJECT at an open casting call in Nashville, TN.

With two more contenders gone, the competition gets fierce on Tuesday, June 19 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Next week, the contenders explore the theme of “Vulnerability” alongside GLEE series regular Cory Monteith (Finn Hudson) by performing Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You.”
