NEWS ROUNDUP: Jen Lilley's 'Awkward' GH Start, Johnny Depp Praises Jonathan Frid, Lohan on GLEE

GENERAL HOSPITAL's Jen Lilley: Replacing Kirsten Storms was 'awkward'
"In a word, awkward. It’s really wonderful now. … The analogy I always use [is] if Michael C. Hall wasn’t Dexter — and that’s my favorite show — [but] if Michael C. Hall wasn’t Dexter because he was sick, and let’s say, oh gosh, name one of the best actors ever. Dustin Hoffman. If he was filling in for him, I would be like, ‘Uh uh. No. You’re not Michael C. Hall. Get out of there.’

"So I completely get how emotional it was for them to have somebody new stepping in. … After the initial shock that it wasn’t her, they’ve been really amazing. And I gotta say, soap fans, out of all fan bases, are definitely the most loyal. They’ll tell you how it is. But once you get them on your side, they’ll fight for you. So I really like the fans."

Jonathan Frid transformed the vampire
Before Barnabas, the vampire was a creature with a fairly limited job description. He was primarily a predator. There were hints of regret or longing in some pre-Barnabas vampire portrayals, but they were only hints. The vampire always returned to predator.

After Barnabas, the vampire could question his own nature and battle against it (Louis in "Interview with the Vampire"). He could go from preying on humans to being their defender (Angel). He could be conflicted (Bill Compton in "True Blood"). He or she could be an action hero (the title character of "Blade" and Selene in the "Underworld" films).
