INTERVIEW: Colleen Zenk "Clooney" Confesses In New Show (Plus, Photos!)

By Damon L. Jacobs

What do Ambien, Facebook, menopause, and George Clooney all have in common?  They are all subjects up for fodder and speculation in Emmy nominated Colleen Zenk's hilarious and moving new play, "Marrying George Clooney: Confessions From A Midlife Crisis,"
written by Amy Ferris.  We Love Soaps caught up with Zenk after the first public performance on February 29th, as she shared her reactions to the play.  Is she friends with her new co-stars?  Will any AS THE WORLD TURNS stars be coming?  And what about Mr. Clooney himself?  Read below to find out.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: I am talking with gorgeous Colleen Zenk right after the first public preview of Marrying George Clooney.  How are you feeling right now?
Colleen Zenk: This was our one and only preview.  This was our first time in front of an audience.  We had no idea if the laughs were going to come, if the audience was going to get.  I can’t tell you how pleased and excited we were after the show.  We were all hugging each other backstage.  We were so nervous before the show started.  We just didn’t know if people would like it!  When you do a new play, especially a comedy, you just don’t have any idea if it’s going to work.  We feel great tonight.  It was a great audience, it got lots of laughs, we had a great time.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: You look like you’re having a lot of fun up there.  Do the three of you get along?
Colleen Zenk: Oh yes.  You can’t do a show like this with other actors without bonding with them, supporting each other, and being there for each other the whole time.  We’re really very connected.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: A lot of this play deals with the trials and tribulations of being a woman in her fifties living in 2012.  Is it important to you to get these stories out there?
Colleen Zenk: It’s based on the memoir, “Marrying George Clooney: Confessions From A Midlife Crisis.”  I think a lot of the issues are universal.  I, myself, have not gone through everything these characters go through, but I think so many are universal issues.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: Do you know if any of your former AS THE WORLD TURNS cast mates are planning to come?
Colleen Zenk: They are working on a WORLD TURNS cast night, I’m not sure which night that is.  A number of my cast mates are coming from my last show ODYSSEY THE MUSICAL on Friday, March 2nd.  I’m not sure when the WORLD TURNS gang is coming, I was kind of holding off on them until I knew this show was going to work.  Now that I know it works I’m going to beat the tom toms and get them here because this show runs until March 24th, and then they will figure out where it goes next.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: How does it feel to be on stage after opening and closing this year's Indie Soap Awards?
Colleen Zenk: I had so much fun at the Indie Soap Awards!  Not only because it was fun being in front of a supportive crowd.  But it was so interesting being a part of an award show where I didn’t know all the other shows and a lot of the nominees.  But there was so much love in the room.  When you do shows out of passion, and not the paycheck, you get a very different vibe from people.  They were all just so happy to be involved and to do it.  It’s all about the creative process whether you are a writer, producer, or actor, I was so thrilled to be there.  Thank you for the bubbles.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV:  Our pleasure! So are we going to see George Clooney here or what?
Colleen Zenk: You know what? George did not win the Academy Award.  So I think George needs some good press.  He needs to show up here.  But it’s a good question.  Knowing the kind of guy he is, he just might show up. He definitely knows about the show.  If he shows up I’ll text you.

Don't miss this great opportunity to see fan favorite Colleen Zenk in this exciting new show and possibly sit next to one of her ex-WORLD TURNS cast mates, or even Mr. Clooney himself! Buy your tickets here.
