WHAT’S NEW for the 2012 Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards

What's new for the 2012 Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards? Below is a summary of the changes along with key upcoming dates in the process:

Performer Pre-Nom Round:
In response to the feedback regarding the Daytime Performer Nomination process, entrants are now required to submit a 2 minute single-scene clip reel from the 2011 calendar year for judges to evaluate during an online ‘Pre-Nomination Round.’ Each performer will be assigned a “control number’ assigned by Daytime staff (separate from their Entry ID number to ensure complete randomization). On the judges ballot, this ‘control number, when clicked, will connect to an online video feed that identifies the entrant and displays their work. 10 performers, per category, selected regardless of show affiliation, will then proceed to the Blue Ribbon round of judging (by DVD) where the Nominees and Recipient(s) will be determined.

Preliminary Round of Judging:
To accommodate categories containing potentially long hours of required viewing/judging, a preliminary split-panel round of judging will be employed. This will be determined by the Daytime staff following an “Intent to Enter” deadline. After judging, the National Awards Committee will review the scores from each split panel and determine the number of entries that will advance to the Blue Ribbon round of judging.

Synopsis
Entrants are encouraged to include an informational essay explaining why the submission is Emmy worthy. This essay will be included in the judging ballot as a supplement to the viewing material.

Digibeta Submissions
Entries in Categories (4, 13, 14, 31, 33, 36, 37, 39, 42, 58, 59, and 69) which will be mastered onto a single judging DVD should be submitted in Digibeta format. DVD, minidv, dvcam, dvcpro are also acceptable formats.

Special Class, Animation, and Children Series Writing Categories:
Scripts are now allowed, but not required, in addition to DVD evaluation.

Sound Editing/Sound Mixing:
The categories of Sound Editing- Animation and Sound Mixing- Animation have been separated from the categories of Sound Editing- Live Action and Sound Mixing- Live Action. Foley Editors are now Statue Eligible in the Sound Editing- Animation category.

Directing in a Talk Show/Morning Show:
Associate Directors and Segment Directors are now Statue Eligible, provided they meet the minimum percentage of shows worked rule.

Segment Producers:
Segment Producers are now Statue Eligible in most Daytime program categories.

Drama, Legal/Courtroom, and Talk Show:
