PRIME TIME: Fall 2011's 3 Most Fascinating New Series

3. THE PLAYBOY CLUB
We were heartbroken when we first heard rumors that THE PLAYBOY CLUB wasn't picked up. When NBC officially confirmed cancellation, and then decided, effective immediately, to stop airing the visually rich, morally complicated period drama, we were flummoxed.

We Love Soaps refuses to believe that such a competent execution of the "MAD MEN meets THE SOPRANOS" formula would not have eventually paid off. Unable to bait each episode with cable TV style graphic sexuality and violence, THE PLAYBOY CLUB had to build its audience the old fashioned way: it had to leverage good writing into effective word-of-mouth. That takes time. The silver lining: there are several un-aired episodes sitting on a shelf somewhere, and one day, we'll get to see them.

2. DIRTY SOAP
We don't just sit back and watch DIRTY SOAP- We Love Soaps hosts weekly virtual viewing parties, complete with live tweets and the official DIRTY SOAP drinking game. We love it!  Yes, it's true that the series is still finding its way, and we admit that, sometimes, 11:30PM sneaks up on us and we wonder, "Where did that hour go? Nothing happened!" Regardless, we can't escape the raw truth that the premise of DIRTY SOAP is We Love Soaps catnip. Anyone who styles herself a "soap fan" get's a two-fer with this surprisingly wholesome series, as it functions as both a "soap behind the soap" and behind-the-scenes documentary. More Fary Bjorlin, and more Kirsten Storms, please!

1. REVENGE
Every fall, We Love Soaps prays for a new prime time soap opera to come along and make a public mockery of the worn out cliche that "the soap opera is dead." This year, our prayers were answered with REVENGE. With some of the most thrilling wealthy bitches since DYNASTY, the most relevant social criticism since THIRTYSOMETHING, and the most addictive life-and-death story lines since DALLAS, REVENGE is weekly event television for anyone who likes a ripe, juicy drama. REVENGE is also an unqualified ratings success. Whatever their role in booting ONE LIFE TO LIVE and ALL MY CHILDREN off of network television, ABC deserves credit for bringing us the most intriguing new series of Fall 2011.

What new series do you find intriguing?  Tell us why in the Comment section, below.
