Patricia Modell, actress and wife of Art Modell, dead at 80 (Nurse Meg on GENERAL HOSPITAL, Scott's Mother)

Actress Patricia Modell, who was married to former Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens owner Art Modell, died Wednesday, the Ravens organization announced. She was 80.

Modell, also known as Patricia Breslin, started acting on television in 1949 when she played roles in THE PHILCO-GOODYEAR TELEVISION PLAYHOUSE.

She appeared in the TV series THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE opposite Jackie Cooper and played Laura Brooks in the primetime soap opera PEYTON PLACE.

Her last television role was as Nurse Meg Bentley Baldwin in GENERAL HOSPITAL in the late 1960s.

Meg was a widow she came to Port Charles with her young son Scotty Bentley (later Scott Baldwin) and teenage stepdaughter Brooke.

She became engaged to Noel but it was Lee Baldwin that she loved. They eventually married. The rest of her life was pretty tortured as she suffered from breast cancer, had a mental breakdown and eventually died having a stroke.

She left GH when she married Modell, but remained after in the theater. Later she became involved with a number of charitable organizations.

When the Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore in 1995, Pat Modell, always loyal to her husband, spoke out about the backlash.

"The fans shouldn't be mad at us," Pat Modell told The Plain Dealer in Cleveland in an interview published yesterday. "They were shortchanged by the political establishment, particularly Mayor Michael R. White, and part of the business establishment -- the part that didn't purchase stadium loges."

"As for the other attacks that have been made on Art personally, I will never forgive the attackers," she said. "The reporters that Art worked with for years, the columnists . . . it's unforgivable."

She is survived by her husband, their two sons, John and David, and six grandchildren, the Ravens said.
