Debbi Morgan: Y&R's Harmony Is "180 Degrees Away From Angie" & May Be "The Black Erica Kane!"

In a new interview with TVGuide.com, former ALL MY CHILDREN star Debbi Morgan reveals new details about her character on the THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, Harmony (Devon's mother).

"From the moment you see Harmony she's 180 degrees away from Angie," says Morgan. "Angie was the earth mother. Harmony has a real edge to her and, unlike Angie, she is not an educated woman. She had no relationship with Devon from the time he was born. She was an addict who gave her child to the grandmother to take care of, and when the grandmother died, the boy fell into the foster care system. Now she's got her act together, or at least she's trying."

She also confessed to being a longtime Y&R fan.

"I always use to say to Victoria Rowell, 'I hate you, Vicky! I wish they'd get rid of you so I could come on that show because you know they'd never have two black divas on at the same time! Or maybe you should go do Angie and I'll do Drucilla!'"

Are you excited to see Debbi Morgan on Y&R?

  1. Y&R is such a ball of mess right now. I'm a long time CBSer and I'm quit watching MAB & cronies is nominee of the Dena Higley Award for destroying this grand soap opera. Murdering Maria is ONCE AGAIN rewriting history and miscasting characters...aka Diane aging her by 15 yrs younger, in this
case doing the opposite because regardless Maria "didn't like the name of Yoland" she created the character made her much younger as teenager. Maria just decided to rewrite the whole story...Y&R is horrible and won't watch...Debbi Morgan needs to run because MAB uses up high quality big name stars and treats with with such disrespect and disdain...HUH..MAURA WEST, EDEN RIEGEL

  2. Wasn't the name of Devon's mother Yolanda???

I hope MAB isn't messing with another great actress. -.-

  3. Is Harmony the ironic nickname for Yolanda?
And I also hope that Y&R doesn't eff up Debbi Morgan's
time in Genoa City like they did for Eden Riegel and Maura West.

  6. Anonymous,

Morgan didn't throw "black" in there. She IS a black woman. Like it or not, black Americans experience life differently from white Americans. Race affects their lives much more so than whites. Why shouldn't she talk honestly about her experience?

Do you think that someone who is gay doesn't experience life differently than someone straight?

Do you think that people who are minorities should just keep their mouths shut and not talk about their real lives to keep you happy?

Damon and Roger have written extensively about the lack of diversity in daytime. You should read the archives of this site for their work.

  7. Morgan arguably is the best actress working in daytime today. I'm glad that she has found a job. However, I wonder if Maria Arena Bell is up to writing decent material for her. For whatever reason, Bell's Y&R has been a train wreck for several years with terrible casting decisions wasting talented actors and lousy writing. I hope that Morgan has better luck with the show than Maura West or Genie Francis. However, this nugget about "Harmony", when viewers saw Devon's mother, "Yolanda", really makes me wonder if we're seeing the first misstep in another Bell casting disaster.

Personally, I would have created a new character for her. Bell seems to love to revisit the past so.... Why not introduce her as the unknown daughter of John Abbott and Mamie Johnson from a brief fling the two had shortly after Dina Mergeron abandoned the Abbott clan? I'd love to see Mamie back on the show and Morgan would be great opposite her old co-star, Peter Bergman, as well as Eileen Davidson.

  8. Debbi Morgan is awesome. Y&R is good again! Thank you for giving Devon something to do!! Great acting and excellent story. back to basics and hope it stays that way. Time to end the Who murder Diane and Sharon in jail storylines and get back to some of the things viewers want to see. I'm looking forward to Melody Thomas Scott's return too!
