Today in Soap Opera History (October 2)

On this date in...

1946: FARAWAY HILL debuted on the DuMont Network. It was the very first television soap opera broadcast on a network. It lasted until December 18. The show's plot revolved around a widowed New Yorker, Karen St. John (played by Flora Campbell), who moved to a small town to be near relatives. NBC and DuMont were the only two networks in operation at that point.

1996: On GENERAL HOSPITAL, Monica dumped Pierce Dorman (Tuc Watkins).

2001: On ALL MY CHILDREN, Erica demanded to know why Frankie was in Bianca's bedroom.

Celebrating a birthday today are:
Lorraine Bracco (ex-Janice, LIPSTICK JUNGLE) - 57
Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, ALL MY CHILDREN) - 41
Tiffany (Performer/Guest Star on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS; GREEK) - 40
Erik Fellows (Troy, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) - 30
Brianna Brown (Lisa, GENERAL HOSPITAL) - 32
