Katie Couric Talker Gets A Name; What Will Happen To GENERAL HOSPITAL?

Former CBS EVENING NEWS anchor Katie Couric has settled on a name for her upcoming ABC talk show, two people familiar with the decision tell TVNewser. The program will be called simply KATIE, when it debuts in Fall 2012.

Disney-ABC is preparing to market the show to stations and advertisers, and has already put together marketing materials, and is working on a website.

Couric's show is expected to replace GENERAL HOSPITAL in the 3 p.m. ET timeslot in September 2012.

Will GH move to different time? Get canceled by ABC? Picked up by Prospect Park? What do you think will happen with GH? Are you enjoying the show more with Garin Wolf as the head writer?

  1. They can cancel it as far as I'm concerned. Jaxless Hospital if off my DVR, and so is the rest of the ABC lineup.

  2. I will never watch Katie or anyother show that replaces "Soaps" ABC is off my TV when they cancel General Hospital. Garin is doing a great job after the mess "Guza" left him with.

  3. Kill it already! It was decimated years ago by Guza and cannot really ever get back what used to be great about it. It's lower than ratings than OLTL anyway. Kill it now and save a quality soap like OLTL.

  4. Another option would be that GH is moved to the time slot previously occupied by either The Chew or The Revolution. (I mean, does anyone believe that both will be successful?)

And the bigger question may be, what happens in 2013 when Katie is determined to be a big ol' flop and gets the axe?

  5. I will NOT watch katie couric if they cancel GH, I really hope they don't cancel GH because no one cares about a stupid news show or a stupid cooking show when they have FOOD NETWORK CHANNEL!!!!

  6. I hope General Hospital stays on. I like it. I like the new head writer. Lots of other parts of the show are surfacing now that had been long forgotten. It's really getting good again. If GH is cancelled I may have to stop watching TV. With the cancellation of Brothers and Sisters and only 13 episodes left of One Tree Hill GH is all I've got left!

  7. I love GH! I really hope they just move it to another time slot. I'm ok with that. But this is my favorite soap! I'm going to miss All My Children and especially One Live To Live. I am not at all interested in Katies show or any dumb cooking show.

  8. I watched GH with my mom back when Steve and Audrey Hardy were the stars! Regardless of college, work, illness, whatever, I have always watched it live or have recorded or TiVo'd it since those things came available.

The writing is stronger sometimes than others, but the familiar characters are rich and comforting. The acting is great, with a few exceptions, and I love the fact that we can count on the same actors year after year.

I find Katie Couric abrasive and obnoxious. I will not watch her show whether it replaces GH or not.
