Hurricane Irene Hits The East Coast: Soap Stars React On Twitter (Updated)

Hurricane Irene knocked out power and piers in North Carolina, clobbered Virginia with wind and churned up the coast Saturday to confront cities more accustomed to snowstorms than tropical storms. New York City emptied its streets, subways and buses and waited with an eerie quiet.

Meanwhile, soap stars were talking about Irene on Twitter. Here's a sampling of what they had to say.

TUESDAY
@beth_chamberlin (Beth Chamberlin): Power still out, but at least we will have hot water in an hour. Forgot to say, came back from VT to leaking, broken water heater.

MONDAY
@ColleenZenk (Colleen Zenk): Irene devastated my world. Her flood destroyed family pics, history, my children's memories & belongings. Career artifacts, too. Trying to dry family history. Thousands of photos. Childhood memories may not survive. No power for at least a week.

SUNDAY
@MarthaByrne10 (Martha Byrne): Everyone is ok in my house...We have power and a few trees fell down. Staying inside today and getting kids closets in order for school. Hope everyone is safe and sound!

@_MelissaArcher (Melissa Archer): My street looks like a swimming pool!!

@JillLorieHurst (Jill Hurst): Yesterday I was hypnotized by news coverage, today must try and do something...well, something different.

@joancollinsobe (Joan Collins): Serious flooding in New Jersey & power outages. Very scary

@MattyFnWalton (Matt Walton): Prepped in every way for #Irene except for my morning cup of hot coffee. Guess it's lukewarm RedBull instead. Stay safe all!
