Why do they call the Emmy Award “Emmy”?
“It’s a feminization of ‘Immy,’ which is short for the image orthicon tube,” explains John Leverence, Academy of Television Arts & Sciences svp awards. The image orthicon, which revolutionized TV, was originally built to guide flying explosive weapons in World War II. “The objective was the guided torpedo, but it ended up being used in television,” said RCA engineer Paul Wymer. The 4,000 “Emmys,” as engineers fondly called the devices, didn’t win the war, because the weapons they were used in weren't quite reliable, but the orthicon later made TV feasible. It was called “the atomic bomb of television.”

SONS OF ANARCHY creator Karl Sutter has even more to say
"Let me begin by saying that there is a bigger issue at hand regarding all this Twitter bullshit. It's a separate blog, but in short, main stream media is going to kill Twitter by using it as a source of on-the-record documentation. When you have douchebags like Brent Lang at The Warp taking my three tweets and building a story around them, you have news that ends up being ten percent fact, and ninety percent subjective conjecture."

Soap Opera Digest Confronts the End of TV Soaps
As that content indicates, these days, the greatest splash soaps have made in some time is with their cancellation. Stephanie Sloane, editorial director of American Media publication Soap Opera Digest, said, “It’s harder to get a new audience, now, but there is the potential to get the last viewer back. When they have a baby and were at home they would watch the shows on [cable channel] SOAPnet. Since the characters stay the same, that audience is likely to come back.”

But SOAPnet, part of the Walt Disney Company’s TV holdings alongside ABC, is going off the air in 2012. Is there a future for the soap? “I feel confident,” said Ms. Sloane, “that the people who read this magazine are just as confident as the people who watch these shows.” And is there a future for Soap Opera Digest?

A heretofore silent publicist jumped into the phone call. “We’re going to have to hang up now.”
