REVIEW: Pieces of Inception, Black Swan, Lost

Web Series: PIECES

For fans of...: LOST, Christopher Nolan

What it is: Terminally ill Everyman copes with knowing too much and yet not enough; unconventional detective mystery ensues.

What's good: Ambitious and well-planned. Pacing doesn't let us linger long enough to poke holes in the story, and yet it leaves no one behind (but pay attention!) Strong male lead.

What's great: Pieces may serve as an important counterexample to arguments that psychological thrillers are “too big” for the web series medium. Deftly navigates (and even has some fun with) the “supernatural question.” Pending a satisfying denouement, we predict cult popularity.

What could be better: Call us old fashioned, but it's distracting that the actors cast as detectives appear to be adolescents.

Addictive like...: Justifiable homicide.

Grade: A-

Review based on: Episodes 1-6

  1. I don't usually read reviews. I like to make up my own mind about movies, web episodes, etc. I read this and I loved it. You read my mind....every "piece" of it. Well written. The lead deserves an A plus for his acting not to mention the fact that he produced, edited, wrote, and dedicated all of his spare time to this. Imagine what he could do if acting or producing was all he did.
