Susan Haskell OUT at ONE LIFE TO LIVE

Susan Haskell has been let go from her role as Marty Saybrooke on ONE LIFE TO LIVE.

Haskell won Emmys in 1994 and 2009 for her portrayal of the character that was first introduced in 1992. Marty's gang rape story in 1993 is one of the most memorable in the show's history. Amnesiac Marty's relationship with her rapist, Todd, in 2008 helped propel Haskell to her second Emmy win. In the past year, the writing for the character has been very uneven as if the writing team was unsure what to do with the character.

Stay tuned to We Love Soaps for further details in the coming days.

  1. Susan Haskell is a great actress. This is a loss for OLTL's fans. Unfortunately, OLTL lost interested in her character Marty after she won an Emmy! Since then, Haskell has not had a strong story. Instead, she had been made a supporting character, never leading story.

It's sad and ironic that OLTL could care so little about an actress and character who contributed so much to show. That's showbiz. :-(

  3. So sad.. Susan won 2 emmys as Marty.
OLTL is as bad as the other ABC soaps.. I stopped watching when they wrote her into Saint Annes, now I don't have to go back.. I'm 3 for 3 on ABC soaps

  5. Smart move, writers or not, Marty became fast coward material, ages ago. Hopefully this will give more air time to exciting actresses like Aubrey.

  6. Oh goody! This will most likely free up more air time for AWESOME and EXCITING characters like NuJack, James, Nate, Bobby, Dani & Starr. Maybe they will even put Kassandra with 2 K's on contract! Then I can stop watching all together.

  7. That will make AMC fans happy since she is Thorsten Kay's "Life-Mate" and her career was the only reason he wanted to remain in NY

  8. I'm saddened and angered by this. Susan gave her all to this sorry show for so long. Won an emmy, and instead of doing the smart thing and actually using her they shove her to the background and focus on that sow, NataLIAR. They lose me as a viewer thanks to this idiotic move.

  9. Susan's strong performance during her initial run on the show is what brought me in as a regular fan of the soap.

I hope her departure is not a permanent one and that in time, she can return as Marty. OLTL has a very full canvas right now and I am sure that played a part in letting her go.

There is possibly a bright spot in all of this, soap fans. With Haskell not under contract with OLTL,perhaps her real-life hubby, Thorsten Kaye, will change his mind and return to AMC full-time. I know..wishful thinking.

  10. i really enjoyed her work this past year with Marty losing it and the back and forth between her and Natalie and John .... and all those flowers she lashed out it !!
I remember reading that OLTL wanted to go on recurring and she turned it down... so without another family member to anchor the character am not totally surprised by this... Though I do think more could have been done with the character... mmm I guess her exit storyline will involve the reveal of her switching up Natalie's paternity test ...and maybe getting Vimal out of jail which will be a big plus for the show.. nobody can complain about Vimal ( Nick C's) - he went to julliard after all ...

  11. I think that Susan Haskell is great but I think that the writers have done Marty a terrible disservice. At the moment, there is no way out for Marty. The character has been written into a corner. I think that this was an awful thing to do. I can't help but feel that this was deliberate. I would have much preferred that Patrick returned and Marty and Patrick became valued citizens of Llanview again. I think that this would have made for a much stronger and better show, certainly it would have been more popular than the choices that the writers are currently making. The Ford family is awful, not the actors, the characters and changing Jack was a huge mistake. Sadly, I am not fond of Aubrey, but I do like Cutter and Vimil and his wife. I am a fan of Terri Conn but I do not like Aubrey at all, although perhaps that is the point. Anyway, back to Susan Haskell. She was done dirt and the writers owed her better.

  13. Susan was excellent as Marty several years ago, but her character this time around was a total bore! I'm actually surprised she managed to stay on the show as long as she has. She is one of the highest paid actresses on the show, yet the show did not utilize her wisely and her character basically "dry-rotted" into oblivion.

I personally am no longer invested in OLTL anyway as I quit watching when Kish was dumped! They were, by far, the "supercouple" that could have given this show "some legs" and brought it back to life! Unfortunately, FV had other ideas (or maybe it was Frons). I still think if Kish were to return, they could give the show a real boost! I was a lifelong viewer of OLTL and it broke my heart when Kish left! I no longer watch now because, frankly, there isn't anything TO watch anymore. OLTL had a gold mine with Kish (and the opportunity to bring in a whole new international viewing audience which would have been good for the "sponsors" of the show as those internationals buy just as many American products as American's do). ABC and Frons basically shot their own sponsors in the foot when they dumped Kish. I think ABC, Frons, FV need to start listening to the viewers and stop thinking we are all nothing more than monkeys that Frons can "train" to like what he likes! Over 80% of the viewers loved Kish, but it didn't matter because they dumped them anyway! I wonder if it matters NOW???

Marty is just another "quality" actress that has been let go by OLTL. This past year they have let several quality actors/actresses go, and then hired nobodies with minimal acting experience for huge storylines that they can't handle. Personally, I think Frons and FV are "intentionally" trying to kill the show! But that is MY personal opinion. And unless Kish comes back to OLTL, I don't really care what happens to the show anymore!

  14. Susan is just another "victim" of Frons and FV. I also quit watching OLTL when Kish was dumped as they were, by far, the best thing to happen to OLTL in years!! After seeing how they were dumped, and then the way they were treated in the media by their own show and network, I not only quit watching the show, but I will no longer watch ANYTHING on the ABC network!! I refuse to support a network that treats their employees the way Kish was treated, and then lies over and over about it to the media to cover their own rears! Those young men did NOT deserve to be treated that way and it was totally unnecessary!!

In the long run, this is probaby a "blessing in disguise" for Susan Haskell. And they are at least treating her with dignity and respect.

  15. Why not get rid of the Ford boys as they have no respect for woman and ruin the reputations of good characters.

  16. Susan also has the distinction of having never lost an Emmy race. She's won each nomination. Too bad the writers don't understand how to write for complex characters.

I'm also hearing rumors that Robin Strasser might be next to leave.

  17. Someone just posted on the Datalounge Gay Thread that Brian Frons made an announcement that ONE LIFE TO LIVE will be canceled at year's end to make room for another talk show. I hope this is only an April Fool's joke!!!

  18. Breaking News: "TV Guide Magazine has learned that the network is not just planning to cancel AMC in the coming days but will very likely cancel One Life to Live, as well. Word is, ABC Daytime chief Brian Frons has a talk show and reality show lined up for fall " both of them much cheaper to produce than soaps " and he needs to clear the schedule. More disturbing, insiders say Frons has been extremely cavalier about all this, showing no signs of sorrow or regret about a drastic decision that will leave General Hospital as the network's only daytime soap."

  19. I'm sad for OLTL not giving Marty a good storyline since the whole Tod fiasco part 2. But as an All My Children fan I'm jumping up and down hoping that there is a way for our beloved Zack Slater to come home. And for that I'm ashamed to say that I hope this story is true.
