WE LOVE SOAPS TV Interview Archive: Van Hansis

WE LOVE SOAPS TV chatted with Van Hansis at this year's final Nuke-a-Palooza event in April. He discussed with us more details about his upcoming film, Occupant, and shared his feelings about the end of AS THE WORLD TURNS.

We Love Soaps: What is like to be here for the last weekend while the show is still on the air?
Van Hansis: It’s great.  Not that it's ending, but that I have been so lucky to have been here and to see it through to the end.  I am going to miss these characters and the fans and I definitely feel it will be the end of a big important chapter in my life.

We Love Soaps: How do you deal with loss and change?
Van Hansis: I’m excited about the future.  Especially since they gave us six months notice. They gave us time to make peace with the ending.  I’m very much looking forward to what is next in my life.

We Love Soaps: How are all your fans still going to be able to find your work?
Van Hansis: I’ve got to get cast in something and then they can watch that [laughs].   But I am a doing a movie, I can talk about it now.  It’s called, Occupant. It's a horror film in the vein of [Roman] Polanski, that is, it's a psychological thriller.  It's a lot of fun.  It's a big departure from Luke.

We Love Soaps: In what way?
Van Hansis: In every way.  The character is nothing like Luke at all.  I’m excited to try something new and I’ve never done a film before.  We’re in pre-production now, and the whole process that comes into play is so exciting.

We Love Soaps: As the network daytime dramas are dwindling down, the internet is showing a proliferation of creative and innovative storytelling.
Van Hansis: There’s a lot of great stuff on the internet.

We Love Soaps: Have you ever been approached to do an internet web series?
Van Hansis: I have not been approached.

We Love Soaps: Would you ever do one?
Van Hansis: Yes.  Oh yes, I would totally do it.  I’m open to pretty much anything right now.

We Love Soaps: Can you give us any hint of how things will end up for Luke?
Van Hansis: I don’t know.  I honestly have no idea.  We get the scripts about a week in advance of the shoot.  So I only know about two months into it.  We shoot two months in advance.  Luke has some decisions he has to make.
