UPDATE: ATWT on SOAPnet & P&G on YouTube/Hulu

WE LOVE SOAPS TV has received a number of inquiries about the status of the P&G soaps on YouTube and Hulu. Unfortunately we can now confirm that the P&G content ("classic" ANOTHER WORLD, AS THE WORLD TURNS and GUIDING LIGHT) will no longer be available on Hulu as of October 21. The content on the Telenext Media YouTube channel will discontinue at the end of September.

Also, the Huffington Post website featured an article today about the end of AS THE WORLD TURNS. The story mentioned that the soap would begin airing classic episodes on SOAPnet in January 2011. WE LOVE SOAPS TV confirmed with a Telenext Media rep today that this is not true.

The bloody heartless and soulless P&G buggers!

How do I preserve the YouTube clips? -I'm crafty - not great at computer-ease.

Is there some program I can use to upload and keep the episodes I want and then convert them to a CD or DVD.

Help!!!

I know that there really isn't much of an 'upside' to this -- but maybe P&G is planning DVD releases...

I give up!! Fans of any other medium would not be treated this way. We deserve a book, a DVD set, a special or a yearly reunion movie of some sort. Beyond insulted by everybody involved in these organizations. I'm dreading tomorrow but relieved that so many talented performers can hopefully rebound and go on to new projects where their contributions are celebrated.

This is truly disappointing news, a slap in the face to classic soap fans.....and the timing(with ATWT taking its final bow this week) sucks as well.

As far as saving videos from YouTube, you want a video downloader/converter app. If you Google "video downloaders" several options will pop up, then you can choose the one that best suits your operating system and needs.

Does P&G have a reason for pulling the shows off Hulu and Youtube?

Do they have any plans for starting their own website where they can stream all the old P&G soaps?

This latest news is ticking me off the most--GGRRRR!!

Isnt it ironic that they throw the shows under the bus for "business purposes," but hold them hostage until they can find a way to wring a buck out of them? The first soap opera paycheck I ever received in the early 1980s had a corporate logo emblazoned on it: "It's Not Creative, Unless It Sells." Alas...that's why it's called Show BUSINESS. :(

Hi, Damon and Roger - do you happen to know if they mean they are taking down the official clips only, or are they actually going to go after individual posters like Oakdalian and LukeVanFan?

Also, I would love to hear if you have more info, but I called P&G and they were very explicit in saying they have ZERO plans to release any classic soap footage on DVD and will not sell the rights to anyone else to do so.

There has to be a way for them to make money off these classic soaps online - e.g., by charging a modest subscription fee. Maybe their contracts with the actors/creatives don't allow for such residuals? I just don't get it.

Last, for downloading video, if you use Windows, I adore the YouTube One-click Downloader for Firefox (I'm sure there are many others just as good). It puts a link on each YouTube page so once you've found a video, you just click on the link for the file format you want (it'll be right under the video) and the vid downloads.

Love, this only applies to the Telenext Media channel on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/user/TeleNextMedia

Oh, phew! Thanks, Roger - you just made my day!....BTW aren't you up awfully late? I'm in the UK so it's morning here!

Yes I am. And my plan was to go to bed early! :)

That's the Hussy post for they make up stories. Wonder what else they make up?

Roger you may know the answer to this, but did PGP have to pay for the shows to be on Hulu or YouTube? I know YouTube is free to all of us....

Also do they have to pay residuals to the actors, etc.?

If they have no plans to sell the rights, which I have heard elsewhere is the case, and there is no cost to having the shows posted then why pull them? Seems to me they are missing an opportunity to try and find advertisers who are willing to pay to advertise online.
