  1. Good for her. I think it's great that B&B and other shows are allowing actors to find parts in other projects to supplement their reduced incomes and increase their acting portfolio.

It's a shame that Katherine Kelly Lang hasn't done any significant work outside B&B.

I think having some roles outside soaps will be critical for the long term careers of soap actors given the hostile climate for soaps.

Martha Byrne should be on a primetime show now. She should be the next Dana Delaney, but she has no credibility with Hollywood casting agents because they don't know or care about her work in soaps.

Several of the Y&R actors, Daniel G. and Thad L. have done guest spots on TV programs. Hopefully, Y&R will allow them and their colleagues to continue doing so.

I think of the great actors from ATWT, like Jon Hensley. Where's he going to go at 45? Michael Park? It'll be tough for those guys to find a break in Los Angeles.

Joshua Morrow should be out there trying to line up guest roles or a movie of the week. Sharon Case had a lifetime movie.

Eric Braeden is a talented actor but when he was in his contract dispute, it was painfully clear that no primetime show would hire a 60+ year old actor for $1 million a year who had no base outside daytime TV.

  2. I think the soaps, and especially the Bell shows, are seeing that letting their actors do outside work is win/win for everyone. With license fees, or ad revenue in the case of ABC daytime, shrinking, salaries and/or guarantees are being slashed, and the actors need some kind of incentive to stick it out. Letting them do outside parts balances that out, especially for the younger actors who can still build some street cred in prime time or film. So you see the likes of Luckinbill, Graziadei, Ashley Jones and Sarah Brown showing up in guest spots, or even a short-term role on True Blood for Jones. How many people know Jones now thanks to that? That just proves SoapFan78's point.
