AD AGE: Daytime TV's New Entries Push Soaps Toward Drain
Advertising, once so plentiful for the daytime soap format, has accordingly winnowed down over many years. Measured spending on network TV for soap operas totaled $764 million in 2009, according to Kantar Media, down 27.3% from $1.05 billion in 2005. Advertiser spending on the genre continues to wane: Measured spending on network soaps tumbled 19.4% in the first five months of 2010, compared with the same period a year earlier.

The final FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS season debuts on DirecTV on Oct. 27
The fifth season will later air on NBC at a time to be determined.

CBS will premiere THE TALK on Oct. 18
No official word on what CBS will air between Sept. 17 when AS THE WORLD TURNS goes off the air and when THE TALK debuts.

"Britney, I think 100% is going to be on the episode, which is exciting," Ryan Murphy told Ryan Seacrest this morning. Britney, he says, might play John Stamos' dental assistant as the kids drift into an anesthetic Britney state. "The Britney episode, I'm here to say, is so reverential about her," said Murphy, "and so kind and it's about her music and it's not about her personal life. And I think, Britney Spears is pop-culture, and I think she's been through a lot. And I want to do something that just sort of says, you know what, 'thank you for what you have done.'"
