Red Carpet Interview: Leann Hunley At Daytime Emmys

We Love Soaps was honored to speak with Emmy winning actress Leann Hunley on the red carpet at the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.  Here is our conversation with this talented (and underutilized) actress.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: I am here with the legendary and Emmy winning actress, Leann Hunley.  I remember the year you won [1986].
Leann Hunley: You do? I barely remember that.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: You weren’t there, you didn’t accept it.  I was looking for you.
Leann Hunley: I would have been there except I had just taken on a job on a nighttime show.  So I thought, “I’d better take what I can get, I don’t know when I’ll work again.”  I didn’t expect to win, I was absolutely flabbergasted.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: We have loved your work on DAYS, we are so glad to see you back.
Leann Hunley: I’m having a lot of fun. I hope that shows.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: Anna has gotten to do a lot of sneaky mean things lately.
Leann Hunley: And get away with it. I think a smile helps.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: Yes. You do it with a smile, you do it with finesse, and you do it in a way so that we understand why she does the things she does. We don’t want Sydney to be apart from her mother, yet we root for Anna, we want her to be happy.
Leann Hunley: Well yeah!

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: How do you pull off that balancing act?
Leann Hunley: It’s all that training (laughs).  Basically Anna works on two principles.  She needs money, and she love.  She needs money but she does most things for love.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: Unfortunately the love of her life has passed away...again.
Leann Hunley: For the eighth time.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: Anyone new on the horizon for Anna?
Leann Hunley: I don’t know. You should have asked Dena [Higley]

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: Any more scenes with Arleen Sorkin (Calliope) coming up?
Leann Hunley: Not right now.  Not as far as I know.  But never say never.  It was so good to work with Arleen again, she is a dear friend.  We jumped right back into our timing.  It was great.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: You two hadn't worked together since 1986, but your rapport was still there.  I remember your last scenes together in 1986, then your first in 2010.
Leann Hunley: Bless you!

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: I hope next year we are on this carpet talking about your next nomination.
Leann Hunley: That would be fine too.
