  1. Roger,

Can you speculate why Days has seen a sudden decrease in ratings? I don't follow it. The show had been trending upwards but it's suddenly falling.

I'm not too surprised about B&B's ratings. The show is hit or miss. It feels rudderless. As much as I love Sarah Brown, the Aggie storyline seems a waste of her talents. The situation amongst the Forresters and Logans is lame.

I don't understand how Brad Bell finds his current storylines engaging. So much of it is rehashed or rings false. Eric and Stephanie are a terrible couple. He's cheated on her constantly through their marriage. Dumped her and married other women three times. Ridge is a blowhard.

And, then there's the Steffy versus Hope show. Blah. Steffy should think of Hope as her little sister instead of an evil Logan. There could be sister rivalry but this level of animosity doesn't make sense.

  2. It's hard to know about Nielsen ratings, especially for daytime shows, because most of us (just about all of us) are not part of the same. I've heard from DAYS fans lately that they find the show "boring" but none of them are part of the Nielsen sample.

In some ways I suspect B&B can maintain second place because despite the cast changes and up and down storytelling, you still have Stephenie, Eric, Brooke and Ridge. No matter how incestuous it gets, at least fans can see familiar faces that they associate with B&B and always have. If you watch ATWT or DAYS you will see a lot of faces from the past few years (like all soaps) but some days they are the ONLY faces you see. I think you have to sprinkle in the vets (which is why whole episodes dedicated to Bob and Kim on ATWT recently were heaven to me).

I sure wish that in 2010 we had an actual ratings system that was more accurate. I don't even want to trust the trends of Nielsen because it's so few people. It's so scary to see the numbers these days knowing what they might mean for the future.
