OWN Inks Ad Deal With Procter & Gamble

OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network has inked a multi-year advertising deal with Procter & Gamble, the network says. The three year deal is estimated to be worth more than $100 million, according to the Wall Street Journal.

"This is a terrific partnership, bringing together two powerful brands with a common goal to serve the viewer with meaningful experiences," said Kathleen Kayse, executive VP, advertising sales, OWN.

Procter & Gamble, whose last daytime soap will leave the airwaves in September, is an advertising powerhouse, with the company spending nearly $3 billion in 2009 alone in the U.S. OWN would have been a great network to continue one of P&G's canceled soaps.

  1. Sorry, but I hope Oprah changes her mind and that P&G fall flat on their faces. After cancelling the longest running shows on daytime television without regard to the millions of fans that support these shows, P&G deserve to feel that hurt in their respective wallets. I will go out of my way and pay more money than necessary to not buy P&G products and many many others feel the same way.

  4. Katie - do you mean where are they going to advertise P&G products?
I'm not that familiar with OWN, but if it includes Oprah's magazine, Sirius/XM radio channel, her production company, and her rumored tv network, than it sounds like a good deal for P&G.
And yes, CBS canceled GL & ATWT, but it doesn't sound like P&G is too sorry about losing the soaps that made their soap-products household names.

  5. Mo, OWN is Oprah's cable network, a women's network in the vein of Lifetime, WE, etc. To me it's the perfect type of network to air a soap opera.

  8. Mo, I think CBS probably feel that these 2 two iconic shows were never to recover in the ratings and were too expensive.

Unfortunately I think P&G were losing lots of $$$ on both shows, so they probably were happy to move away from these shows, even though they were previously great ways to push their products

  9. I called P&G and Telenext, said they are still looking for a home, told them, about this article and that a P&G exec said that they've run their course, she still said they are truly trying to find a home, said that OWN would be a good fit, also said bring back Guiding Light. I know that it's a pipe dream. But made me feel better to talk to some one. P&G and Telenext are very nice.

  10. I just dont see how they were losing that much money with GL, for heavens sake they took away the sets, and had hand held cameras plus they got rid of a lot of the cast. It's like P&G said, they feel like soaps have run there course. Maybe they'll create new "telenova" like soaps that are hourly once a week for the OWN network, didnt Oprah say she wanted to put her show on at night time? That would keep P&G's shows from being daytime soaps.

  13. Please pick up ATWT on this network.I have watched this soap for years and think this would be the best place for ATWT. Let's show CBS that they made a big mistake.
