GUIDING LIGHT: Where Are They Now? Indie Soaps, Of Course!

One year ago today we learned about the tragic cancellation of GUIDING LIGHT.  It was a wet, rainy day in Manhattan, and my heart sunk as I thought about all those talented actors that I would no longer get to see on my television screen.  Fortunately, many of them have turned up on my computer screen in innovative and creative Indie Soaps that are bringing us new stories, new characters, and new storytelling approaches.

In case you missed any, here is the We Love Soaps guide to GUIDING LIGHT actors on Indie Soaps:

ALL'S FAIRE
WHO'S IN IT: Robert Bogue (Mallet); Mandy Bruno (Marina)
WHY GL FANS WILL LOVE IT: ALL'S FAIRE is a silly look at a Renaissance Faire community. Bogue's addition really makes the show come to life. The humor can be biting and Bogue allows his "celebrity" to be made fun of in a hilarious way.

EMPIRE
WHO'S IN IT: Tina Sloan (Lilian); Orlagh Cassidy (Doris)
WHY GL FANS WILL LOVE IT:  The Havens on EMPIRE would give the Spauldings a run for their money in terms of family secrets, lies, deceptions, and manipulations.  Season Two will show Tina Sloan in ways you have never imagined.

GOTHAM
WHO'S IN IT: Maeve Kinkead (Vanessa); Kurt McKinney (Matt); Lisa Brown (Nola) writes and directs
WHY GL FANS WILL LOVE IT: A slow-building character based story that builds intrigue and suspense, while presenting multi-generational relationships is exactly the enriching and satisfying drama that GL once mastered.

STEAMBOAT
WHO'S IN IT: Michael O'Leary (Rick); Kim Zimmer (Reva); Justin Deas (Buzz); Kurt McKinney (Matt); Beth Chamberlin (Beth); Orlagh Cassidy (Doris)
WHY GL FANS WILL LOVE IT:  Are you kidding? Look at the cast! All these talented stars are allowed to showcase comedic skills in ways never allowed on GL.  This dramedy about what happens behind the scenes of a long-running soap on the verge of cancellation has become an internet sensation and is a must see for any soap fan who has ever loved and lost their favorite show.

VENICE
WHO'S IN IT: Crystal Chappell (Olivia); Jessica Leccia (Natalia); Jordan Clarke (Billy); Gina Tognoni (Dinah); Tina Sloan (Lillian)
WHY GL FANS WILL LOVE IT:  If you enjoyed one minute of "Otalia," if you appreciated GL cast members in outdoor locations, if you savored witnessing the complications of couples making up and breaking up, then this is the show for you!

WED-LOCKED
WHO'S IN IT: Lawrence Saint-Victor (Remy); Karla Mosley (Christina); Zack Conroy (James); Yvonna Kopacz Wright (Mel); Kim Brockington (Felicia)
WHY GL FANS WILL LOVE IT:  The immensely talented and arguably underutilized Saint-Victor and Mosley finally get the opportunity to shine in this dramedy about the highs and lows of two people struggling in a loving relationship.  If you enjoyed catching Remy in his underwear on GL, then you don't want to miss WED-LOCKED.

And, of course, we can't forget those who have moved on to other daytime roles as well: Daniel Cosgrove (Bill) is now starring as Chris Hughes on AS THE WORLD TURNS; Gina Tognoni (Dinah) has returned to ONE LIFE TO LIVE as Kelly Cramer; Marcy Rylan (Lizzie) will debut as Abby Carlton on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS soon; Zack Conroy is now playing Oliver Jones on THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL; and Kurt McKinney (Matt) has been appearing on AS THE WORLD TURNS as Ellis.
