50 Greatest Soap Actors: #39 Gerald Anthony

NAME: Gerald Anthony
RANK: 39
SOAP ROLES: Marco Dane, GENERAL HOSPITAL (1992-1993); Rick Madison, ANOTHER WORLD (1991-1992); Marco Dane, ONE LIFE TO LIVE (1977-1986, 1989-1990)

AWARDS:
1994 Soap Opera Digest Award nomination for Outstanding Scene Stealer
1993 Daytime Emmy win for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
1991 Soap Opera Digest Award win for Outstanding Limited Run: Daytime
1982 Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Supporting Role in a Daytime Drama Series
1979 Soapy Award win for Favorite Villain

COMMENTS FROM THE PANEL:
Alan Carter: Who ever thought a pimp could be sexy? Anthony brought a strangely-endearing, sometimes scary, often confounding role as a pimp and made him...likable. To find yourself rooting for the bad guy...as millions did, speaks to the complexity of what he did on screen.

Patrick Erwin: An intense, authentic performer who brought the unforgettable Marco Dane to vivid life on both OLTL and GH.

Loved the adventures of Marco Dane, Mario Corelli and Karen Wolek. Gerry Anthony was a wonderful actor.

I would have placed Anthony much higher. One of the two best actors (Michael Zaslow) I ever saw on OLTL. There's never been another successful Marco-type character on a soap.

OLTL was my first soap. Marco Dane, Karen Wolek, Vicky/Nicky Joe Reily, Brad & Jenny.......he was part of a golden era. Gerald Anthony made a memorable character.
