NEWS: Nicholas Rodriguez, Nick Adams, GH, Kane

Nick Adams to appear on AS THE WORLD TURNS
The Broadway hunk tweeted that he'll appear on the May 3 episode. There's no word yet on what character he'll be playing.

INTERVIEW: Former OLTL actor Nicholas Rodriguez (ex-Nick)
"I was getting scared towards the end about how they were going to write him off, and I was afraid that he was getting too malicious. So I chose to play him as scared; he was the victim of this gay bashing -- and that's why he did what he did. They wrote this great final monologue for Nick, and I worked on it for weeks, and then, when I saw the script, it had been cut down to two lines. So I went to the writers and I showed them my work and they put the whole thing back in. I was so happy I stuck up for myself.

"There was an overwhelming fan reaction and from the media about that storyline, and it's been great for me to see how the gay community is longing for these non-stereotypical characters. In a lot of ways, I felt like Nick was very similar to me. He was in the forefront of gay activism, and I relate to that. That's why I thought I couldn't lie about being gay while I played someone like him. It all happened so fast, I didn't have time to be worried about being typecast as a gay man. I guess if I had time to think it through, I might have been scared."

The Hoff, ex-wife Catherine Hickland meet at festival
David Hasselhoff and his ex-wife Catherine Hickland met for the first time in about 20 years Friday at the Knight Rider Festival on Fremont Street. He arrived about 25 minutes late for the festival's kickoff ceremony.

"He was late for our wedding too, so I'm not surprised," said Hickland, via a Twitter tweet.

Liz Hubbard's Dutch soap family written out of GTST
The complete Huygens family will be written out of GOEDE TIJDEN SLECHT TIJDEN. Alexandra Alphenaar (Ronja) was already planning to leave but the other three are also let go: Anita Donk (Irene), Peter Post (Martijn) and Emiel Sandtke (Dex). Hubbard played Sair Poindexter on the soap.

INTERVIEW: AMC's Shannon Kane (Natalia)
"I’m currently on ALL MY CHILDREN and it’s like boot camp for actors. Everyday we have different material, we only have a day or two and it’s really less than a week of advance notice of with our new lines, but it’s really sharpened my skills technically. It’s an adventure you never know what to expect."

INTERVIEW: Former Y&R actor Eyal Podell (Adrian)
"Mostly I miss the people. The work was never terribly rewarding, but I miss the people and the day to day feeling of being part of a television family."

NCAA tourney makes ESPN the Magazine's Jemele Hill 'Young and Restless'
"I'm a huge sports fan and I believe the NCAA tournament is the most exciting postseason in sports, but watching YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS has been my guilty pleasure since I was a teenager. My soap opera viewing doesn't usually conflict with sporting events because I have TiVo, so come tournament time, it's always a difficult adjustment. In no way am I suggesting I'd rather see a soap opera instead of the NCAA tournament -- at least I don't think I would? -- but I often wonder: Why can't CBS do a few million soap opera fans a favor and start the games a little later in the day so that we don't have to suffer for days as we await the conclusion of these agonizing cliffhangers?"

  1. VERY upset about GTST's decision to get rid of the Huygens family. This obviously means we won't see Liz back as Irene's mother (although I hope they bring her back before the Huygens family leaves in September/October).

In May 2008 the show introduced this family and I was skeptical. But it's amazing how fast I fell in love with these characters. All four of them are played by great actors.

A lot of fans are in shock about this and also very angry. There's even a petition to keep the Huygens family. I guess the Huygens are our "Kish". ;-)

Even though I'm not happy about this, I do think the GTST writers will be able to develop a new (and interesting) family. It seems like the show wants to rebuild the teen set, because they want to replace the Huygens family with a new family with younger children.
