NEWS: June Havoc, Lifehouse, Benard, ABC Family, Bree

Actress June Havoc dead at 97
June Havoc, who appeared on vaudeville stages when she was 2 as Baby June and went on to a successful acting career — but saw her accomplishments overshadowed by the fictionalized portrayal of her in the 1959 musical “Gypsy” — died on Sunday at her home in Stamford, Conn. She was 97. The death was confirmed by her caregiver, Tana Sibilio. Her last television credit was GENERAL HOSPITAL. She previously appeared on SEARCH FOR TOMORROW. Colleen Zenk Pinter tweeted earlier: "Lost a great friend yesterday. June Havoc. One of a kind. Amazing to all who knew her."

EDITOR'S NOTE: Nelson Aspen has shared a memory of June Havoc with We Love Soaps.

I vaguely remember when June Havoc came in to SFT, working as a day player. Most folks my age had no idea of her rich showbiz history, but as a kid who grew up singing the score to "Gypsy," I was of course most impressed by the "real life" Baby June! Too bad Lisa Peluso (ex-Wendy, SFT) had already departed from the show...she actually portrayed "Baby June" on Broadway when she was a tot...that would have been a cool shared experience for them.

What I DO recall about Ms. Havoc was her annual "Blessing of the Animals" which she held in Connecticut. Lots of her friends from the entertainment industry would head north from Manhattan to attend. My mentor, Mary Stuart, would get her beautiful bearded collie, Mozart, all bathed and brushed for the festivities.

It's nice to think that after such a long and interesting life, Ms. Havoc is now reunited in Heaven with Mamma Rose and sister Gypsy Rose Lee!

(Another SFT degree of seperation: Lisa Peluso's on screen sister, Cynthia Gibb (ex-Suzy), portrayed June's sister Louise/Gypsy Rose Lee in the 1993 TV movie version of Gypsy!)

Bree Williamson expecting first child
"Bree Williamson is thrilled to confirm the very happy news that she and her husband, Michael, are expecting their first child this fall," shares a show spokesperson. There's no word yet on whether Williamson's pregnancy will be written into Jessica's storyline.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Come see Bree Williamson and many other daytime favorites at "We Love Soaps Weekend" May 21-23, 2010.

Lifehouse to Appear on ONE LIFE TO LIVE‎
The band will be performing on the show on April 13th.

Marsha Mason learned how to direct on OLTL
"I learned how to direct on ONE LIFE TO LIVE‎, when Robyn Goodman had left Second Stage and was by then a managing producer on the soap. She gave me the opportunity to learn how to call the show and everything, and I got to direct scenes within the hour."

ABC Family looks to get ad buyers' attention
On Wednesday, the network will screen the first installment of its upcoming drama series, PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, for an audience of New York media buyers and clients. Based on the popular young-adult book series of the same name, the show follows a clique of high school girls who contend with the stuff that teen angst is made of: boys, school and, um, murder.

Maurice Benard comments on the exit of Drew Garrett
"Everybody knows how I feel about Drew,” he says. "We had a bond. On camera and off."

  1. Hey Nelson,

This was a wonderful & lively interview with Larkin Malloy. You are both great storytellers. :)

I just noticed on IBDB.com that Lisa Peluso did indeed play Baby Louise (later Gypsy Rose Lee) in the 1975 Broadway revival of Gypsy opposite Angela Lansbury's Madame Rose.

I hope that you can book Lisa herself for a video interview. She's had quite a career, too! :)
