INDIE SOAP BEAT: March 4, 2010

In this week's "Indie Soap Beat" feature we reveal the latest happenings from around the world of independent soap opera and web series production. Click the show logos to visit the official websites.

The latest actor to join the cast of the upcoming REALITY BYTES is Jered Allen, who will play Ben. We Love Soaps caught up with Allen and he revealed that he had been a fan of creator Tristan Rogers from his GENERAL HOSPITAL days: "As a kid back home on my TV all we had was about five channels - a couple of sports channels, the news and soap operas. We enjoyed watching him and it's kind of funny that one day I'd get to meet him and be in something he's involved with." Look for our complete interview soon. Fans has submitted scripts for BEYOND REASON, the soap within the soap on REALITY BYTES. More details on that will be coming soon.

Several cast members from ANACOSTIA - Anthony Anderson, Kena Hodges, Tamieka Chavis, Chanté Bowser and Pasha Diallo - were in New York over the weekend and taped an episode of WE LOVE SOAPS TV which will be released next week. They discussed the recently concluded Season One and offered previews for Season Two.

ANYONE BUT ME returned with an all new episode on February 23 featuring Liza Weil from GOSSIP GIRL. The show received three nomination for the Streamy Awards including Best Writing, Best Directing and Best Actress in a Drama Series (Rachael Hip-Flores).

VENICE will air its Season One finale on Friday. Subscriptions for Season One will terminate on Saturday, May 1st. Season Two is in pre-production now. Star Crystal Chappell has been nominated for a Streamy Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series for the role of Gina.

Winner for Best Indie Soap at the 1st Annual Indie Soap Awards, DIARY OF A SINGLE MOM, shockingly did not receive any Streamy nominations. The show released another new episode on Thursday titled "Hiding Out." Ocean's new found confidence is sorely tested and shakes her very core. Lupe questions that loving her children might not be enough and Peggy finds an escape that could yield even worse consequences.

THE LIKE US SHOW is a radio soap opera that airs on the web and several radio stations around the country. The show will be joining the April 2010 Parrish/Brown HBCU Bus Tour. The three day bus tour departs out of NYC on April 5th and returns April 7th 2010. During the tour LIKE US cast members will take a bus load of 45 high school students to six Historically Black Colleges & Universities all including Cheney University, Delaware State University, Hampton University, Lincoln University, Norfolk University and the University of Maryland to experience a day of college life.

GOTHAM aired a new episode on Monday featuring the opening song, "Love Makes The World Go 'Round," performed as a duet between Byrne and Michael Park. Richard was saved at the last minute by Sheila Stevens, played by the ageless Maggie Reed. The next new episode will air on March 15 and feature the debut of Matt Crane as Perry. The show will release a "Just a Quickie" preview on Monday.

STEAMBOAT has now released two episodes and the feedback from fans seems to be overwhelmingly positive. The first episode is approaching 10,000 views on YouTube. The show finished in a close second place in last week's Indie Soap of the Week Poll. Does anyone else think the theme song sounds a bit like the theme MAMA'S FAMILY?

ALL'S FAIRE, which features former GUIDING LIGHT star Rob Bogue as Sir Robert, released a hilarious "F. Your Consideration" video for the Streamy Awards. As predicted the show did not receive any nominations. You can watch it here. The musical video makes references to not having any big name sponsors or big name stars (including Bogue).

IN THE MOMENT aired a new episode last week, "Tempting Proposals." The re-emergence of Edgar's drug and sex addiction threatens his friendship with Shawn, while Stephen and Mike contemplate moving back in together. For those not familiar with the show, it is part of an HIV prevention campaign of the LA Gay & Lesbian Center and City of West Hollywood.

COMPULSIONS received four Streamy Awards nominations this week including Best Drama Series. Other nominees include Best Actor in a Drama Web Series (Craig Frank), Best Directing for a Drama Web Series (Nathan Atkinson) and Best Writing for a Drama Web Series (Bernie Su). COMPULSIONS tied for the lead with ANYONE BUT ME at the Indie Soap Awards with four wins.

CHICK released the show's 15th episode on Monday. Lisa's efforts have gotten her more than she bargained for. You can watch it and the incredible Kai Soremekun here.
